Hi Brian, You are right the GPX4500 are the best. That is a nice pice should have gave you a bit of a kick digging it, You are Right about WA being the best for gold. I live in Queensland the Goverment here has stuffed the place. If you Read the Gold mag they bring out I have old ones from the 80s with the same stories they reright them I am sure. If you Lived here Brian the only place is up north not Clermont it is a place they like you to beleave you will do ok but there is a few small bits to every Thousand acres. The QLD Goverment likes to make out it is wonderful up here but they only want to rip the dollars from you. Unless we have a lot of time it is along way to WA . I am going to leave about november and take a few years to travel and detect around Australia. You are right about VIC to it is flogged but is the closes for us up here to get a chance to find anything worth our time. I hear that some good gold is coming from Orange in NSW at this time the dam is low. A friend lives tere and they have got a few 1,3, and 8ozs Bits as well as some small stuff and a lot of hooks and sinkers. Regards ken.

The nugget wasn't easy it was in Calcrete, 13 inches down, it took two & half hours of chopping, my hands were bleeding and the cold chisel was slipping.  Nice to look at now though. Brian

Hi Brian, I can understand that. You got a nice reward for your work, I spent 3 Hours in Vic in hard ground to find a broken drill bit. I never took it out that was the top of it. It can be very hard to get some of he gold out the ground. It is hardenough to find. Regards Ken

Hello all,

I am from South Australia and am a new member of these forums.

Some years ago, I was an avid fossicker and detectorist but became inactive when several like-minded friends moved away.

I hope to became more active in the hobby in the near future.

Aussie here and will search for anything including all that us asked as well as old bottles, crystals, minerals and any other trinket treasure I can find. Just a fossicker, junk collector and hoarder from way back though these days I have tempered my addiction to the hoarding. Wouldn't be so bad if I were organised but I am not so have had to down size immensely. Z.

I'm here in Brisbane and have lots of time to hunt currently. I'm active in beach hunting and currently researching ghost towns hoping to find one I can hunt at.

Would love to find a buddy who has the time and wants to go out to the beach or help with the research on Ghost Towns in Queensland.

Go Up Go Down

Hi Lostchapterbooks, I am down near Byron Bay and go out as often as I can. I do get to Brisvagas most weekends as I do south bank markets but until day light savings kick in, don't get a chance to detect when I am up there as it's norm, ally to dark by the time the markets finish. I love trying beach detecting but until I get a better machine that discriminates out the salt, I am limited to the dry sand only. Let me know if you want to hook up sometime and we can talk about giong out detecting together. I also have a mate that gave me my detector who will probably be interested in joining us as well. Z.
