In the course of my researching, I do speak to many elderly people in their 80's and 90's whenever I can come across them. They survived WW2 and most are still in possession of their faculties. 2 have mentioned such a telescope (teropong ajaib/teropong sakti). One was a Javanese man (he passed on in 2009) and another is of Dusun ancestry.

Were they able to show me such a magical item? No. Did I believe them? No F-ing way!
What they both had in common was a determined attempt to get me to donate some money, a goat and a few chickens so they could perform "cleansing" rites to calm the spirits that were seen thru that telescope in the past by their elders. After such spirits were appeased, then things of value could be recovered. This is simply another modus operandi perpetuated by scammer mediums, spiritualists, witch doctors etc. who hope to prey on superstitious beliefs.

They can keep their magical telescopes; I'll happily trust my my metal detectors.

It is of interest to me but I knew from the word go that it sounded screwy.  :Smiley
I have never heard the tails of such a telescope in my time and I have heard a lot of BS over the years.
