Hi to you all way over there. I live just east of Kansas City, Missouri. I hope I can get all the information I need to make a trip over there. I would like to spend a month detecting for nuggets. If I would have any luck, I might spend two months. I have been wanting to do this for many years. I better do it before I get to old to carry a detector. I think I would be ahead by buying my detector in Australia or just renting one over there. Where would be the best place to go to find a nice nugget? If any of you can give me some information, I will appreciate it.
Thanks, bullseye

Hey bullseye, Lots of gold in Australia. The state of Victoria & Western Australia are probably the most popular, with some big nuggets. This is a good time for it now, as the weather is nice and cool ( Winter). It can get real hot in the Summer, that's your winter time. Use the search function top right of the home page.

Have you any notion about where you want to go yet or are you still doing the research?

Hi to both of you. Yes, I'm figuring more for the western part of Australia. I would like to be able to make contact with a treasure hunter that knows a lot about that area. I know it's a low populated area. Need to figure out the living condition way out west. I'll be bringing my wife with me and I don't think she will want to be out in the sand every day. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Bullseye,

I am only starting out with my gold detecting and have just purchased a new Minelab GPX 5000.
I inquired about buying one from the USA and they were about $650 cheaper there than over here. Unfortunately for me the dealer cannot sell to overseas customers.
So you might want to get your detector before you come over.

I am in Queensland, which is on the opposite side of Australia to which you will be heading to. But if you do travel to my side of the country my wife and I would be happy to take you around this area for a week or so.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy your holiday here and find heaps of gold.

cheers Detecting

Hi spooner, Thanks for the invite. When you come upon a good spot with a lot of nuggets, let me know. We could try both east and west.
Good luck on your detecting. I hope you find a 5 lb nugget.

Hi, Bullseye, The detectors are cheaper over your way but the battery charger is 110 volts, we have 240volts in OZ so be careful.
I have spent every winter for the last 10 years detecting in W.A. even though the Victorian goldfields are only a days drive, it takes a week for me to get to the W.A. goldfields but in my opinion the results make it well worth the effort. I am sure you are on the right track.
Good Luck,  Brian

Hi brian in oz, Where in WA is the best place to go for nuggets? Western Australia takes in a lot of land and it sounds like you have hit the right spot. Is the MineLab the only way to go in Australia?
thanks, bullseye

Just wondering if a person would buy the GPX5000 in the USA and take it to Australia. Would it work to replace the battery with the 240 volt? Would the unit except that much voltage? My thoughts are it wouldn't work. One other idea is to take the 110 volt unit over there and have an adaptor that takes 240 volts down to 110 volts to charge the detector. I'm sure there are adaptors that will do that.
Thanks, bullseye

Hey Bullseye,

I purchased my GPX5000 last week and it came with three different charger adapters:

I am pretty sure the adapters are for,

1 x Australia
1 x USA
1 x European

I am sure your Minelab distributor could confirm this for you. I found Kellyco in the US to be very helpful and they have some good package deals at the moment.

Hope this helps
