Great sand scoop, long pole saves having to get on your hands and knees, as with a hand held one... gonna build my own now Smiley

I'm a new member and this was the first item that came up exploring this web site.  Feel like I struck a little "gold" w/ this posting since beach detecting is high up on my interest list.  Is the shaft about 3' long?

Go Up Go Down

Hi Jim,  I've only gotten take it out twice and one of those was it's maiden voyage in my backyard where I found a silver button about 6 to 8 inches deep.  Really surprised me.  The next time was about 10 days ago and I took it to a lake campground owned by the State.  I was pretty disappointed for a couple of reasons:  one my misaligned back was just creating fits for me when I'd go to dig, the other was trying to figure how the pinpoint button worked, rather how the pinpointing worked on the bottom elliptical.  I was able to find things like old aluminum beer cans crushed in a ball and buried a few inches deep, a couple of lead things that I still can't figure what they are and tons of bottle caps.  I guess Okies like to toss them wherever rather than put'em in a trash bag.  The next day I had to go see a chiropractor to help with the back and its been a painful ordeal for the last week.  I've seen him 3 times and only today am feeling like I'm not going to be a permanent invalid.  We've also had some major thunderstorms roll through--including tonight. I'm not keen walking around in the woods with all the metal gadgets I have on my belt with lightening dancing all around.  But, to answer your question, Jim, the AT Pro will be a good machine, I'm sure of it.  Just taking me time to get to learn how to use it.  I'm starting to recognize sounds produced and am able to tell the brand of the beer before I find the bottlecap......just kidding.  But, I took a few things along with me to test the machine and see how it did.  One was a solid gold ring that a client gave me made from a nugget he found when operating a drilling outfit up in Alaska.  So I'm able to tell what that sounds like.  Took some coinage, quarters, dimes, nickles, and pennies and the like to find how they sounded both individually and collectively.  Dug a few holes and tossed some in to see how accurate it was on it's depth discrimination and it did really well on all of the pieces be they gold, silver, jewelery, or bottle caps.  I need to keep learning how to either squelch out the abundant crap out there or be prepared to do a lot of digging.  Maybe that's what I'm supposed to do now that I think about it.  That's probably how all the old hands learned how to do it that are on this site--that would be my guess anyway.
But, the other thing is I really like being outside and taking time to appreciate this beautiful State I live in.   One last thing, Jim, I'm always keeping my eyes out for some abandoned house or barn where I think I can try to get permission.  I'm keeping a log and a map of the county with places I want to go back.  Here's a tip that I thought was good that I thought of when I was driving out to the lake spot.  I saw a sign that said Sand Springs Historical Museum, next exit.  I thought that maybe this might tell me of some old cavalry fort, or some old buildings that existed, you get the picture........  Then locate and MD them.  I'm believing more and more that some good research in the history of a town is worth its weight in gold.  After all I'm sure I'll be able to write my own history books after I'm through and I already know its title:  THE HISTORY OF THE BOTTLE CAP IN OKLAHOMA AND WHAT IT TELLS ABOUT THE COWBOYS AND OILMEN OF THE NOT SO OLD WEST.  Well, hope you're smiling, Jim.  Thanks for asking how things are going with the gear.  Take care, till next time.  Gold Finder
