White Dual Surf PI
« on: November 03, 2010, 01:30:00 am »
Go Up Go Down

This is the assortment of stuff I found on my very first day of metal detecting on a wet beach here on Oahu.  I was using my new White's Dual Surf PI and adjusted it according to the seller's suggestions.

I used it for about 3 hours before I felt like my arms would fall off!  I can see my shoulder muscles need work!
I'm very happy with the results.  Yes, most of it is just junk, and there were several pieces of wire and bottle caps I left in the beach trash bin, but this is a great hobby and I enjoy never knowing for sure what is there until I dig it out of the sand.

Unfortunately, I didn't look at the tide charts so was there at high tide and could only hunt the top edge of where the surf was breaking up to the dry sand line.

I found two quarters, one of which is highly oxidized, one dime and one penny.  In the lower left of the picture you see a round hoop object which is a .925 silver bracelet.  The chain still had monofilament on it and was a poor man's fishing weight I guess.  The B-52 must not have been there long, it has almost no corrosion on it (I didn't even know they still made metal toys) but it was 4 inches deep.

Deadeye

Not bad for the first time. Dig, dig, dig. It will probably take 2-3 days for your arm to recover.

Cheers

Sean

White Dual Surf PI

Go Up Go Down

Went out again this morning, tried a different beach.  The one I went to was really junky!  All I found were pull tabs, bottle caps, wire, capri sun packs.  This Dual PI may be too sensitive, it alerted on a nice target and 30 inches down I found an only root beer can!!!!
My only 'keepables' for the day were 4 heavily corroded pennies.

Hi there Deadeye!  I just ordered a White's PI Dual - should arrive this week.  I have been hunting with a Minelab Excalibur II - does a great job nulling out the junk.  I want to make sure that it is just the junk that it is nulling out, so I figured that I would try a PI style detector.  On Sunday, I dug over 60 holes detected by the Excal (mostly clad coins and a few pieces of jewelry) - sore arms.  I better eat my spinach, in preparation for the Whites dual, since all those nulls I passed up will have to be dug.  Exhausted

Have fun with it!!!  I'm already building up my arm and shoulders  Smiley

The deepest thing I've found so far was an old root beer can, measured with a tape measure at 34 inches deep.

Thanks for your show and tell it's nice to see what you have found.
How did you find the people on the beach react to you waking around?

Most of the people ignored me, a few were curious, some even asked questions.  Basically everyone was friendly.
