Enjoy your newly rediscovered hobby. It'll keep you fit and get you outside now and again.
As to books, there are lots of free and low cost resources on the web. Right here, in the download area, are a few eBooks that I uploaded which are free when you have full membership. Next are two lnks for you to visit. Dan Hughes sponsors both of them.

On the second link, you can listen to Dan's web casts and subscribe to his podcasts. He also wrote a book on treasure hunting. It's available in eBook format. He's a regular here, too, so you can actually exchange ideas and communicate with him.
The second page is full of his thoughts on other resources. You can download any of his audio web casts and listen to them later after you save them to a CD or a thumb drive. Nice listening on the way to and from a site. Dan is a genuine treasure himself.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
