Hello Teddi14 . Thanks for Joining this Forum . You started a good Topic . What you can do is kind of keep track of how deep your Targets are and what types of coins . And when you have time just post a quick report , that would be Great . If your sensitivity is set to maximum and you only hear tones when you hit targets that is excellent . If you hear constant noise or chatter when sweeping your search coil then turn your sensitivity level down [decrease] to 4 or 5 out of 10 , if the noise does not go away then there is a good chance the search-coil was poorly manufactured . But If your detector is working good at the maximimum or any sensitivity setting , then the $100. dollar price you paid , is not bad !!! Any brand of Metal Detector you buy , will take a little practice at first  . Looking forward to your response and all future Posts .
HH and Best Regards...........Eugene

OK, here's another one for you, looks like my Bounty Hunter DE280 died, as I put batteries in it, and there's nothing at all, except on the battery meter, Cant seem to get it functioning. I was going to take it to a park, and get used to it again, but I guess it had other ideas (great project unit to tinker with now). What would be a decent unit for the (desert) beaches, parks and possible nugget shooting? I've seen the (under) 200 dollar units, are they worth the effort?
I would like some recommendations from someone who could guide me to a versatile machine for a tight budget.

Thanks

Hello again mdiede !! Keep the DE280 for a "Forum Repair" project detector" !!! You probably have a broken wire or bad corroded solder joint . A Metal Detector for less than $200 ? .Check Craigslist nearest to your city . Some people like Bounty Hunters , if your in the USA  Big 5 sporting goods have $129. dollar "coupon specials" almost every other week . Like a Bounty Hunter "Elite 2200" or a Bounty Hunter "Fortune Hunter" . Some people love the Garrett ace 250 for $212. us dollars [new]......You can buy a good used Machine for less than $200 , but sometimes you have to act very quickly when you first see them advertised.
Regards...........Eugene

I believe the Ace 250 is the best and easiest to use for the money out there today. I have a friend that has a bounty elite 2200 and from using it some and comparing to the 250 it is almost worthless, not worth the money at any cost, he is going to put it on eBay and by a 250, and i suspect that is why there are so many cheap detectors on eBay in the first place. All major brands, Fisher, Garrett or Whites has a good low cost detector for two to three hundred dollars, it always seems that cheap is good but when you get rid of the cheap one for a loss and buy a better one you could have purchase the good one first and been happy.

You for starting out can look up kellyco or just type in metal detector in search engine get somewhere, where theres a lot of detectors so you can compare. you can always start out with a less expensive model and when you find your first SILVER coin and get hooked on the hobby always buy a better one ...then you have a spare for Friends to go with you! Then they get hooked,,,and well it's a vicious cycle!  lol

I got a couple of BH I have taken in trade or bought for a few bucks over the last year and think little of them. You can get the Ace 250 for 212 dollars new and that's a good deal.
