Evening all! As the topic says, I am new to metal detecting. I received my 705 just over a week ago. To date, I have approx. 8 hours of swing time. After reading a
lotof threads, posts, articles, field reports, ect I incorporated it. Here are my impressions and experiences thus far.
First, this has been a very easy machine to get the hang of. It has met and exceeded all of my expectations. It is quite light and swings easy. Set-up can be as simple as turning it on, GB in auto and go. Or, you can tweak it to your personal preference. Though I am still getting used to manual adjustment, the auto and pre-set has worked quite will.
Next, it will find a pretty much everything. I say "pretty much" because, just like a computer, it is only as good as it's user. I will give you my limited, but impressive experiences thus far. Yesterday I hit a spot that had multiple targets very close together. The 705, with patience and attention, announced every one of them, three in all. I dug the shallowest first. A penny at roughly one inch. I rechecked the hole to confirm the other targets were in facts targets and not faults signals. Yep, two more left. I dug the second. A nickel at roughly three inches. Again, I rechecked the hole. One more target to go. It at roughly was a bit weaker signal and was at the 6-8 inch mark. I dug down to the depth checked for it. Still in the hole. I dug a little more. Checked the hole. This time it was out of the hole. I searched though the pile of dirt I had next to me. I heard the signal but could not find it. After two minutes of swiping increasingly smaller handfuls of dirt over the coil I found it. To my surprise......it was a staple! A single staple at roughly 8 inches. I attached a pic of the staple. It is the bent one at the bottom of the pic:
I found the other staples and such near the staple I am talking about.
So, for anyone who is considering this metal detector, it is very capable! I have no idea how it stacks up against the other detector available so I can't speak on that. As for me.....I am very happy with this one. I give it two thumbs up, more if i had more thumbs
