I hate having to dig up those pesky pulltabs, but am afraid if I don't that I'll miss most of the gold rings or even a gold coin if I don't. I've never found a gold coin yet, but I've found some nice gold rings over the years and if I hadn't been willing to dig those stinking tabs then I probably wouldn't have had any luck at finding the gold rings and other gold jewelry. I usually search with my scrim not much above the foil level in areas where I believe the gold rings are located such as the beach or in a park.

Yes, dig every pull tab, it will be worth it.  Reason why, is due to physical science.  A ring and pull tab is generally the same size, shape and conductivity of a ring.  Therefore, most of the time they will come up as pull tabs.  That is how detectors see it.  That is how I found my first silver ring in a park!! Grin

Fun thing to do, is to count how many pull tabs you got. Grin That might help a bit.

metal inspector is right, dig them,on the minelab xterra they are mostly 12 to 16 on the display, but most of the 12ves are nickel coins,16 mostly pull tabs, but I still dig them, some times I wrong, any way its good to clean the pull tabs out of the place you are searching,Ive rid the local park of most of them, and researching the same ground Im finding more coins, clean out the trash and your find rate will increase,I know they can be anoying, but look at tab dog for example he digs every thing and just found his 14th gold ring this year....mike

I agree with the previous answers.  Dig all of em.  You may find some interesting items that show up in the rang of pulltabs.  I've got a couple of finds that I've made recently that I need to get posted that some of them did show in the pulltab range.  It can be very interesting digging those signals.

In a park I reckon to dig 250 pull tabs for every ring, in a field about 50, on a beach in the dry about 100 to 200, in the wet about 50 to 75. But I dig them, I might just miss a gold or silver ring, and I would NEVER forgive myself for that.  Undecided

pull tabs are a way of reading the type of site your detecting, the more pull tabs the more activity, more activity more losses, you know thease 1970ties pull tabs, big ring and long, find them every where,in the late 80ties we had the pull ring that that stays on the can(theres always some fool who still snaps them of),still you got to dig them, after a while you get used to it,and then there comes the suprise...and thats worth digging 400 of them....mike

I prefer to dig.  There's just too many other things blotted out on pulltab discrimination.  Besides, if you remove the pulltabs, then later decide to go back over the same ground, you will not have them to worry about.

^ as above....youll be cleaning up the park too Smiley and like oldcoon said, you may want to go over the site more carefully again, and when you recieve a signal its more likely itll be something worth your while....and if not...what the hell...thats one less tab in the world to worry about!

Maybe we should save our pull-tabs and deliver them to our elected officials and other bureaucrats the next time they want to ban us from hunting parks, schoolyards, etc because of the damage we due.    (Come to think of it, a pull-tab hunt might be a good publicity stunt for a club to take on.   Let the public see all the 'hazards' we're removing.)

Haha great idea! even if we collected all the ones we found and send them to Coca Cola (I mean like a dumper truck full of them), dump them outside their head office and hopefully they will make a more planet friendly can, preferrably with nothing that breaks off! Make our life easier! and Saves the planet too! And i guess will stop young children from choking on them as well.  :Smiley
