I have done a few schools and have only found trash and a couple of pennies.  I do like working the sand area of a playground but otherwise not too much luck.  The problem is a lot of schools in my area have redone their playgrounds with artificial turf instead of sand.

I use schools and parks for my training on any new metal detector.

Go Up Go Down

Schools were my most popular sites to detect until they started to fence them in due to vandalism and thefts.
I usually ask for permission to get in there. I am a retired teacher so sometimes it helps to have the connections at the schools.
Lately the changing of the guard has made it more difficult for me to get into the schools. The new prinicipals are rookie by the book administrators.
I hit the parks more than I used to now.

I have found that at the bike stands at the schools are a great place to find change and an ear ring or two.  It's good to learn the tones on my machine too.  Lets keep it up!

I will try some schools again soon. Most are fenced in.

I've been noticing lately that even a lot of the fenced in ones have a gate or two open......

one of my best hunts ever, as far as a really good clad day, hit an elementary school playgroung; found $27.75....almost all quarters. Probably a ton or so can tabs and the metal end where the eraser is on a pencil. A few hot wheels cars and a hair clips.

Go Up Go Down

As I said I love to do school yards, I have hunted them for years, more years then I chose to own up to  Undecided Anyhow I was looking over some of the posts here, and I realized that I should mention here that most of the schools in my area have been locked down do to vandals and thieves.

Point being this. After all my years hunting these areas I have master keys to most of the gates anyway. How did I get them? You guessed it.
I have never used them, but I would bet I have a master key for most locks. I should have turned them in when I found them but I didn't, now I don't know which goes where. Any way better they be with someone who is responsible enough not to use them then have them fall into the wrong hands.
