Hi all!

What a huge lot of infos to read!

I have a question to ask.

Is it better to build a metal detector, or to buy one.

And what kind?

Thanks for the answers

What is your goal? To search near the Seashore / mountains or near the valley near the lakes? in 1 way you need MD with high discrimination that can abolish mineralization of water of the sea and soil of mountains. In this way you need Tesoro or other same. In other way you need something simple like Garret.

Thanks to you two.
I have already taken informations about the garrett ace250, and the vendor told me it was a good detector to begin with.
But I saw a test on the web which showed that the ace250 missed a lot of targets.
Do you have data on the sensitivity of it?
How deep can it detect a small coin?
Does the metal type influence the sensitivity?
By the way, my goal is to search near my home that is to say in fields, forests and why not river sides.

Sensitivity in the great part depends from the size of bobbin (coil, reel - i don't know how its write correctly) and from its form (circle or oval) and from the signal like cone. Cone from MD with oval form, as i understand, drops not right down, but like cone. And from round reel it drops wright down, but more deeper. It counts and responses to the motion when you search. Professional MDs have good sensitivity to all metals, especially gold, and have very good discrimination like inclusive discrimination to language of the jars (i hope you understand me), but they very expensive.

P.S. how it write correctly - i mean MD reel and language of the jars?

Hi, thanks for your advice.

I quite understood all you said, except language of the jar.
As for the bobin, everytime I read an article, people wrote coil.
Anyway the priority is to understand each other.

I am pretty much interested in building a detector. I just don't know which one I will choose.
But who knows, maybe tomorrow I'll let it down and go buy one.
