Any where people have been is a good place to start. School yards, parks beaches old home sites.
You need to check your local laws about metal detecting they are different from city to city.

Welcome from Texas

check you local school district history, all school districts started small in the old days usually the first building held students from k-12th and over time as all things grow, they build more and more schools to catch up. and eventually the first building grows old and outdated ,the districts wont get rid of them just use them for admin buildings or other district use  but most times they pave over playground areas .  but kids being kids ran and thru and lost things all around the buildings, lunch money and things they took of dads to show everyone, think back and try to remember what things might have looked like then and look for those blind spots where the kids then and now still try and hide for the teacher,

Always think about traffic... where were people ...what were they doing.. for quick new coinage, start in the playgrounds in all metal mode.. i found my first 14 ct. gold ring that way... and tons of loose change... to pay for the new batteries... parks (Just not state or federal) are great traffic areas. In San Antonio, under the sky tram was filled with coins people dropped.. have fun!@

I was just thinking that fairgrounds where they set up the upside-down rides would be great!
