I'm Newish to metal detecting, & so far haven't had much luck with metal detecting, other than iron or tin cans. Ive read the instruction many times but get confused over all the settings. Please advise me on setting  to start me off in the right direction. I usually use the all metal mode.

How about going to the INTRO board and telling us a little about your self?

Alway nice to know a little about the Person your talking to.

If your doing as Instructed in the Manual all should be well.

Sounds like you just have not put it over coins yet.

Tell Us how you Ground Bal and Have all your other settings please.

Go Up Go Down

hi, I live in Scotland uk. Smiley
I've recently retired & therefore wanted the exercise, to keep fit. Plus the added benefit of history of things I find.
The setting on my tesoro has been:
 ground balance about half way.
sensitivity about a quater way up.
discrimination just passed 5c measure
threshold factory setting
Sorry wasnt in the all metal section just button in middle.
Hope this helps Smiley

You Need to do the Intro Post.    Go in Here:

http://www.thunting.com/smf/new_user_introduction-b3.0/

ground balance about half way.   Not the Answer!   You Need to put your coil 3" from the Ground and if the Audio goes up turn the GB knob Right 1/4  Clockwise and Try again.

If Audio goes down 1/4 Counter Clockwise repeat until you hear little or No Difference .

Coil and Machine Huming the way you can hear it and like it , you should hear little or NO differnce lowering the Coil to the 3" mark above the ground.

Then you have GB done.

sensitivity about a quater way up.  Put this 1/2 up.  After you start finding goodies Rase it up as high as you can until it starts to Chater or false on you .   Back it off just a bit.

discrimination just passed 5c measure.   Thurn it all the way down.

threshold factory setting.   Make this so as you hear the tone well comfortable to you.   This should have been the first step.

Sorry wasnt in the all metal section just button in middle.  In this setting the Discrim is not working but ok and better.  Setting I gave should work.

Go to All Metal to Pin Point.

Hope this helps

You Need to do the Intro Post.

Nobody NEEDS to do one. You seem to be inventing a rule here that doesn't exist. He wouldn't have posted it in the wrong place if you hadn't insisted on an introduction.

To Tangorory, keep on learning your machine. Most of the really successful treasure hunters dig every single target and never use discrimination. Incorrectly set, it can actually be your enemy rather than a friend. For example, if you set it to cut out pull tabs, you most likely will also eliminate gold rings. Not a good outcome. I never use discrimination any longer. And I don't miss any gold rings or small coins.

Come on, Homefire. As it is right now, he doesn't know YOU either. Don't waste time chastising folks about introductions and then telling them they did it wrong later. Try and stay on the topic of treasure hunting, if you can.

You've already introduced yourself right here but in the future, use the Community Forum, New User Introduction section. It can be found on the Board Index in the second block down from the top under the index itself.

Welcome aboard!
