It's interesting to see these reviews of the 505.  I have one, and also an Ace 250.  So far, I've had better luck with my Ace than with the BH.

Yes I can because I own one  Great. Excellent upgrade. I upgraded from my BH Tracker IV another good machine. But the Pioneer is a professional detector and much more sensitive. The pinpointing is its only drawback in my opinion, but if you switch to the all metal, no motion mode it will pinpoint with precision. The panel is great in telling you what kind of find you may have and how deep it might be. Of course, as with any machine it is all an estimate. You will definitely have a ball with it! I do and I truly recommend it as an excellent general use detector! Ah, it is light too! Get a good pair of headphones with it and on you go for the adventure. Wow I feel like an ambassador for the BH company  Cheesy

P.S. See me below with the BH Pioneer 505 hunting in Hawaii beaches

I play with a Pioneer 505 and seeing the features of your Garrett, they seem similar in features. Yet, try both at the same place and compare. Ah, let me know I might be on the market for another machine. Happy hunting

Took the Ace 250 and the Bounty 505 out last weekend simultaneously. Besides differences with chirp and control panels, both were equally effective.

well i have been using both the Garret and the bounty hunter. I must admit both machines a brilliant to use. But the garret is better. With the garret you set up a custom search list so any coin from anywhere can be selected, the trash is also blanked out. That is good. To give you a better example on a recent job i had to find some grave markers in very trashy ground so by setting up a custom search only the markers were selected every thing else was cancelled I found close on 62 grave markers and no bottle caps.
With the bounty hunter great machine i have used it on a job searching for a ring,Tiny 4"coil it picked up things that a minelab missed so at the end of the day If all you can afford is the Bounty hunter get it it will not disapoint but if you can go further then the Garret GTI2500 wins Grin

I see this is an old topic. However, I "grew up" on a BH 505. It is a great machine, the ID is a bit lacking. It is best to run it in all metal with a very slight amount of disc on the dial. It like to be run a bit hot, if you are willing to dig some trash. I noticed the higher I set the sens, the worse the deep target ID segment would be. For instance a IH cent will show up with the pull tabs. With its 7.5kHz frequency it will find larger coins at a pretty impressive depth for a $300 ID MD. Several years back found a LC at 10", sounded off like a quarter. I recently sold it to a friend in Illinois, he loves it, says it does better than his Ace250. I somtimes miss it.....

I have no complaints about my BH 505. I like its simplicity and reliability when it comes to coins and silver. Like I said elsewhere, this machine is a coin/silver animal. I agree it can go deep with quarters and big items. I've found 1000s of coins and several rings with it. Light weight as well. When I travel abroad, it's the MD of choice to bring w/me. I wish it would not go crazy on wet sand at the beach though, but it's an excellent land machine for the price.  Detecting
