Hi all
I have been considering a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV for in the water beach detecting  Detecting
that is knee depth water.

I have been trying to read up on a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV , most of the hype says they work in sea water, but the question is do they really work in knee deep (2 ft) of water ?

What is the catch with them, are they stable or do they play up in the water ?

thanks any info would be helpfull from people that own and use them in sea water

If you are going to use it in water that deep then be very careful and not lift the coil higher than the control box
you might end up drowning the machine,
Always ground balance the machine in the water and pay attention to where your machine is in relation to the water at all times.
the machine will work fine in water if that is what they claim so start off one the wet and dry sand until you get use to the machine
that dont meen in an hour or so it takes a little while to get use to beach detecting.

Mine started acting up at the beach but I got a constant steady signal in one area.  I dug a hole nearly to China and finally gave up.  The next day there was an electrician on the beach with his gadgets and I asked him if there was a problem.  He said there was live current surging thru the beach from a bare wire somewhere and they were trying to find it!  Ha!  No wonder I was getting a good strong signal?

I didn't take it in the water because I was reluctant to do so.  The beaches had outside showers and water fountains and people were getting a little zap in their bare feet when they touched the handles.  I did notice a difference between really wet sand and relative dry sand but I just kept adjusting the sensitivity and until it stopped misbehaving.

Hey, that's a good aluminum recovery machine by the looks of those finds!

From what I've read, I think there fairly stable in the salt water once you adjust your settings and even it out. Just like RidgeRunner mentioned though, watch what your doing in the surf. It's easy to have a memory lapse & actually make a mistake and submerge the control box or to let go of the machine.

Good luck & may you recover "Blackbeard Bills" aluminum treasure chest!  Grin

Jim
