We did a smack down at hunter army airfield in GA. Back in 88 that caused both skids to flatten out and bent the belly
of that old huey. Good thing about them old birds was there easy to fix and get back in the air.
but no lie to tell . I thought I was a gonner for a minute there. I think the pilot suffered the only injury.
a broken lower leg.

Shocked Shocked  Im glad you made it Karl.  Maybe thats what messed you up.  A friend of mine did a similar belly flop and it compressed everything that wasnt solid inside.

Sorry for the icons my wife was messing with my mouse when I was typing.  That sounded bad.  It just gets worse.

I got something a little more urgent just for you GD, There is a Gentleman who is trying to find out about the Nexus detectors but he has now posted A Link that has some weird detector of sorts that requires you Expert opinion as I have never come across such a thing before, So maybe you can shine a light on the subject, anyway here's the Link, Thanks Mate,

He contacted me by PM and I told him straight up that I knew nothing about that machine. I also told him that even if he has a really big, deep target it is unlikely to be treasure of any kind. We all dig hundreds of items and get a 1 out of 20 return. In other words, 1 out of 20 is a keeper. The rest is trash. Why would anyone want to dig up an automobile sized target with that kind of ratio of return? I mean, some days it's more like 1 keeper out of 50.

The Green Angel could fly so shot up It was a Wonder.   In the end we dumped hundreds in the Sea to make room for other stuff.  How Sad.

Some times they only Could save the Engine.   Shot to shit it still did it's job.   Dings, Dents and all it would fire up and work.   Rotors seen flying had so many bullet holes in them no one could figure out how they held together.    Yep That was a Machine.   Bell Made the Machine from Hell and Back.

Only flu on one one time.  Greece the Greeks had Micro wave site and I was the chosen one to get to fix it.  Only way there was copper and they put me and my Equipment on a Vintage Bell.   That thing was Wooping and Bouncing more then you could.  Looking around there was more Fence Wire holding stuff the Nutts and bolts.  I made more then a few reasons to stay on sight then Fly home.

Still one of the best of he Best Rotor Craft.

Besides the Hueys, OH58s, Chinooks i rode in and wished I could ride in a Cobra. Course that is only a 2-seater, I spent a some time in DC3s and DC6s at Air America. There's tough ole birds. Like a Timex. The control hydraulics made a racket like a ships fog horn. I asked one time why the racket. They told me not to worry when hearing the "fog horn"... Start worrying if you don't hear it..... Amen

Go Up Go Down

My very first plane ride was in a DC3.  We took off from Sioux City Iowa airport, which at the time was also an air force base with a huge RADAR facility.
I also shook hands with Hubert Humphrey at that same airport one day inside the terminal.  I was going in to buy some candy and got stuck in a big line inside.  Next thing I know ol' Hubert is coming down the line shaking hands so he shook mine too then he was wisked away in a motorcade.

We should hear from others as to their chance encounters or not so chance encounters with the famous and infamous!

I also spoke with George Bush Jr. one day when he was governor of Texas.

Way back when I was the president of the high school drama club, I got paid 50 bucks to run the light show for Wayland Jennings at the Eisenhower Auditorium in Denison Texas.  I was at the time the only one who knew the entire light system there.
