)   Sence the Mexican Border has been Clamped down a few things had gone away.    LOL you can leave the US and go into Mexico but you can't come back in without a Pass Port unless it's under the wire.  Don't worry about that if you walked across because 4000 people do it every day.

Camp Cody has been on my bucket list for a long time and I know a few folks that have hunted there as well as some of the other Mexico Expedition/WWI camps such as Naco and Douglas.   But I still like that little Columbus garrison (Camp Furlong) set up and how they have/had the locations of many of the important members of the US garrison marked.   Pancho Villas's scouts had reported that the garrison consisted of only 30 troopers.  The actual number was closer to 330 (4 troop of cavalry + 1 machine gun platoon) + the civilian population which rather quickly armed itself.   That put the actual number of "combatants" on both sides of the encounter very close to equal once the initial Villista initial element of surprise was lost.    Of course, IF Colonel Slocum, the Camp Furlong commander, had heeded the warnings given to him a ranch foreman headquarters 3 miles south, the Villistas would NOT have had the element of surprise.   Instead Slocum got on the train for Deming so he could attend an Officers Call at Ft Bliss in El Paso.   Fortunately the major left in charge was cool-headed and brave.

One more Steping stone I've messed with a lot.   Found Gold and Silver Ore here.   Seen the Largest Rattle Snake ever in my life.  Took some folks from Germany there one day.  Heard the snake before we got out of the Suburban.  Looked Under it, No.  Found it in the Bush by the Passengers side.   Had a few Garden tools in the Back .  Grabbed a Hoe.  Hoe had a 5 ft handle on it.   I garbed the snake by the middle and stretched it out pulling it out of the Bush.   I realized each half of the snake was a long as the Handle I had.  This is True BS!   The head was the Size of a Really Large Lemon.   We come across Rattlers here all the time 4", 5" and sometimes 6Ft.   This one was every bit of 9 or 10Ft.   6 or 8"  in girth.   I dropped the Hoe,, ran back to the Suburban to grab the Pistola.  By the time I got back it was just getting to one on the Rock huts as seen in the Photo.    No I did not go after it.

We use to go camping out there all the time camping in one of the mines because of the Cool air flushing out in the 114F out side temps.   They put in Bat Bars so you Can no longer enter the Mines but the Bats can.   That Sucked.   Still a Option if the Chit hits the Fan.

In 1990 when I got here the Rock huts were all but a few standing.   You could had put a Tarp over the top and stayed in one.   Now most are falling down or been messed up by the City Slickers.   Detecting has be futile around the huts because they just chucked out there old cans in the Front Yard.   The Piles of Rock Heap produced Silver and Gold for me.

BA, Rodeo I've only hit a few time while installing Direct TV.   If we go a job down there we would wonder around and have a look see on the way home.   Not much.

Animas  And Hachita was Good.   Turquoise, Gold and a bit of Silver.   Most of that is Open these days.

That's kind of the impression I got, but I figured since it had been a railroad town for a while there might at least be a few interesting tokens and trinkets (or at least a dump worth checking out).   A relative of mine use to tell me stories about "sneaking" around in the bootheel when he was an Arch. grad student.

Just because we didn't find much doesn't mean it's not down there.   We was only there because of the Direct TV paying the gas to get there and back.   We charged them the Miles to and from job.  All the Rest was out of pocket.  All we found was a Pile of Prospects that looked like they was after   Mallyibium, No Silver  or Gold although it is known to the Area.  My guess is all the work was done about WWII for steal.  No Proper Mines just Prospects with Mally .

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.
