A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Was that the Muller that figured out the Muller Tube?

No, Homie, you're thinking of Walter Mueller who worked with Geiger to develop what is essentially the heart of Geiger counters.   GD is talking about Karl von Mueller the author of such classic metal detecting books as the The Treasure Hunter's Manual (#6 and #7 being the best known), The Encyclopedia of Buried Treasure, etc, etc. etc.

Right on, BA. A couple of years later I ran into him again at a truckstop restaurant in Bakersfield. He was on the grub trail with his dog and camped next to us in our site at the KOA. We left before he woke up. But we paid the bill even though we had a few laughs about sticking him with the bill. After all, he still owed me for a carton of smokes.

Funny how some folks remember the small stuff but don't remember all the stuff in-between.

Close, Mudflap. Exanimo Press was his publishing house, which he owned. All self published.

The next best self published guy was Sam Radding. He still lives in San Diego about 10 blocks from where I lived when I was there. Sam wrote several small booklets of plans for prospecting equipment.
