We have a Gamut of nasty bugs here as well.

Scorpions, Velvet Ants , Fire Ants as well as the regular Black and Red Ants, Various Wasp and Bee's the lot.

Got zapped by a scorpion one time in the butt!   Not so much fun.  LOL

The Tarantulas can give ya a startle if you dig one up but there more trying to run away then anything else.

If your digging in the damp sandy area you have a chance to dig up one of these UGLY BUGS.

They get sorta upset if you grab one with a hand full of sand retrieving a find.

Thanks for bringing the subject up.   You newbies will probably want to use the search function at the top right corner to pull up some of the previous discussions from our archives since I'm sure not all of the hazards and dangers will get listed here.

I can add from very recent experience the danger of seriously damaging joints by tripping over rocks, stumps, feet etc. even when the hunt is in a nice, safe urban area like an empty lot.

btw, here are a couple of the previous threads on the subject:

Of course, given a reasonable amount of caution and common-sense, metal detecting is really any more dangerous than a lot of other activities we all do on a daily basis.

to kill bees and wasp etc 3 parts dish soap and one part water , use enough to cover the nest completely
if you can throw it on the nest from above , the soap closes the pores on the bee's wasp etc, and kills them.

And Homie here in Tennessee and most states in the south we have Brown Scorpions, not as nasty as the black ones but still pack a heck of a sting.
