The best way to avoid bear attack is to realize they are as afraid of you as you are of them. try to always make some noise so they are not startled. wear a sting of jingle bells when out in the woods. It is always a good idea to carry pepper spray along in case you do startle a bear. Know the types of bear you might encounter in your area by examining the spoor. Black bear spoor has berry seeds and the remains of small rodents, whereas grizzly bear spoor has jingle bells in it and smells like pepper.

Another thing is to carry some tennis shoes with you. The tennis shoes may not help you to out run the bear but at least you will be able to out run your partner.  Shocked

But Gerald, I don't think you will out run your partner if you stop to put the tennis shoes on!  Get you partner to carry the tennis shoes and make sure he knows he has to have them on to outrun the bear!   Grin Grin Grin             Detecting
