Yes, I read about this terrible storm/flooding damage to the Queensland area - let me ask MD's here - when a flood comes in and does devistation like this. When it's all done and people can return back to the area - does it become a good place for people to go MDing there? I read in several of the forums that it's good at beaches for after a storm, but wasn't sure about inland areas too?

For this kind of flooding, the silt could be as much as a meter in depth. Not good at all. The river banks do get some erosion though making it good for prospecting in some areas.

Don't ask your question to anyone affected by the floods. You might get your head bitten off. Save this kind of query until next year.

Hello All

The big insurers are already screwing over the victims. There are 3 definitions of flooding. Many who think they are covered by insurance are going to have a rude shock. Riverine flooding is not covered by most insurers. These insurers will hide behind definitions to cut there losses.

Some of the people up there have lost everything. they have no house, cars, business, no job no identification and no access to any money they got in the bank. Some were left only in the clothes they are standing in.

Most houses are averaging between 100000 to 250000+ in structural and property damage such as electrical and whites goods etc. Most are going to to have to find that money themselves as the insurers are already finding ways to not to pay up. Many houses will have to be demolished.

A lot of  people will Be driven into bankruptcy just to repair there houses. Many of suburbs affected will suffer devaluation of their property values. Even if they sell they may walk away with nothing after the banks get their greedy hands on it.

Hardluck

Hello kbernt

Sadly Insurance companies get away with it because of a trick in the wording. I am interested to see in the next few months to see what happens with the banks with people with mortgages. I pray that I am wrong.

They have no house they can live in, they cannot sell it for what they owe, they have no job or cannot afford the repair it and the insurance companies will walk away with impunity while the banks will grab their assets.

I have seen this all too many times before.

With all the media coverage to date not one politician has stood up and warned the banks and insurance companies to back off with predatory tactics on these suffering people.

Why?

Political party funding is being bank rolled by them.

Hardluck

Oh don't I know.. I just read my 50yr roof warranty - it doesn't cover leakage, AND - they have a clause in there that exempts them by saying that they can have an inspector come out and determine if it's been improperly installed then it's not covered either.

My daughter lives in Brisbane and we are about to move over there. Luckily her house in on high ground and was unaffected. She works in the CBD (Central Buisness District) though and it was definately under water.  Offices were closed for at least a week, maybe longer.

For an interesting look at how dangerous it could got, take a look at this video

The Queensland Government is asking for donations and they can be given here

Be very careful if you are wanting to make a donation. There are scams now poping up everywhere. Check the internet boards to make sure your donation is going to a legitimate agency. I can not overemphasize this!!!
