What detector are you using?

Tesoro recommends NOT using rechargeable batteries, because they run 1.2 volts instead of 1.5 volts.  Other manufacturers may have a similar warning.

If Tesoro Detectors are not designed to work with rechargeable Batteries,
the Tesoro Developers fail miserably (my Expert Opinion).
If you use your Detector every Day for a few hours, it wont take long until
you spent more Money on Batteries than you spent on the Detector.
My favorite Electronics seller has some strange 1.5V Alkaline rechargeables...
I never tried these, but seems like this is the only Option for Tesoros (or build a special Battery Pack).

Hello Sauerkraut , You are correct !!! The newer Tesoro Metal detectors that use  9 volt batteries , Do not run to long on 9 volt rechargeables !!! Because 9 volt "nimh" are only rated at 230 milli-amp-hours [mAh] compared to the  "C and D" cell size rating that have 2000 to 3000 milli-amp-hour [mAh]. If you are creative you can make a nice battery pack for any tesoro , but it will be an External Pack Only !!

Regards............. Waveing..... Wise....Eugene52

The real problem is not the capacity, its the Voltage. Zinc-Carbon and Alcaline Batteries have 1.5 Volts, while NiCd and NiMh have only 1.2.
Some Gadgets will not run on this lower voltage. I remember a (very old) pocket LCD TV that needed 2 AA Batteries (3 Volts together) and didnt work at all with NiCd (2.4 Volts together).
Real Hitech Stuff will always use Switching Power Supplies and works fine on a big voltage range.
Rechargeables save a lot of Money and are Environment Friendly. I buy other Batteries only in a Case of Emergency.
