Actually, for all Connecticut treasure hunters. Below is a link to a map collection at the University of Connecticut Library. The maps are all antique maps from local collections for most of the state's cities and all of the counties. Some are actually hand drawn from the 1600s. So, if you want to find your home town and see what its layout was back in the 1800s, you can find it on this page:

You can see where old parks used to be, see where schools were and follow railroad lines, long gone streets and find fairgrounds. Any of those might become your favorite spot to hunt. From my early collections in my own possession, I will be gathering a few maps to donate so they can digitize them. I had no idea that such a large collection existed and I am eager to see mine there. As an alumni of UConn, I will be proud to contribute.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I've been using several of them for some time. Not too revealing on the Wallingford map but still scoping it out.

Thanks for your comments.  I am now back again.  Happy to hear about true stories about buried treasures in our great state of Connecticut.  Take care.
