Go Up Go Down

I don't collect firearms and I don't own one. Fourteen years ago I found the pistol below hidden on top of a heating duct in my house's basement. I own a typical Chicago bungalow that is over 80 years old. I have not done much research on it, but I learned that firearm companies may produce replicas of old guns. So I have no idea, nor I have a way to know whether this firearm is genuine or a replica from an old one. The metallic part was painted grey and I don't know exactly why, but it is from the same paint used to paint a drainage pipe in the basement. Maybe the pipe was painted to protect it from rust and whoever painted the gun did it perhaps for the same reason. Any information would be helpful.

There are spots in my house I must check, now that I'm into metal detecting. In fact there is section of the house that we currently use for storage because an addition was built on it prior to us buying the house and that in the past was part of the backyard. I have checked many websites and arm-related forums, but have not posted on them. I'll try the one you suggested. Thanks.

Ah, speaking about Capone, a legend tells that there are some huge money caches from him buried in the Chicago area in different places. I'm trying!  Great

Sweet find. I love guns and that one looks fun! If you don't want it and it isn't worth much as a collector, I may buy it from you. I know ffl dealers that can deal in the shipping.

Well I'm no expert but I sure would get rid of that paint first. Also I did not know that in 1814 they had shotgun shells (that is what it takes no?) must be one hell of a kick on that thing  Smiley

Yeah, that is definitely in store to cause some damage to a shooters hand.

The number on the barrel is 1914. I have wanted to remove the paint but would need advice on which paint remover to use for I don't want to cause any damage to the patina

It seems that the gun is genuine, but I have no idea of its value. I have had it for 14 yrs and don't know what to do with it. Selling it legally would be a possibility, but I need more information about it. I know I own it because I bought it with the house, but have no paperwork from it.  Undecided

I read 1814 instead of 1914  Embarrassed  as what pant remover you must use well I have no idea why don't you look for a site that talks about old guns send them a photo of it I'm sure you will be able to get the info that you need.
