Oops, so sorry that I didn't learn how to use this forum. Got an email inviting me to participate and followed the links. What's an introduction board, and where would i find it? I don't see it in the Board index. Wow, I'm impressed with the response to my ill-conceived post.

link and saw this statement: "Welcome aboard! Introduce yourself to the other board members and share some information on yourself" but saw no place to introduce self. Clicked the "jump to intro" link at the bottom of the page and went nowhere. Saw the other introductions so I guess i'm missing something. BTW, I'm looking for some way to post this reply and don't see anything. Oh yeah there it is under all those "choose file" "no file Chosen" "clear attachment" lines.

As for Flourescent minerals, the desert is littered with them....(as well as scorpions which also flouresce nicely).    I've got 3 small handheld blacklights (including one with 3 changeable wavelengths) that I carry with me when I go on overnighter metal detecting trips.

For short wave UV light very expensive filter glass is necessary. UV sterilizer bulbs with no phosphors produce shortwave UV but also visible light.  Special filter glass blocks the visible spectrum and passes the short waves. Short waves are dangerous to the eyes so safety glasses are required. Short wave uv  does not pass through regular glass or plexiglass, so regular safety glasses are OK.

You might want to read this over, review it and decide whether you are discussing short wave or short wave. See the confusion here?

Sorry Ecurb2 but I don't follow, why are you telling us this? is there some thing that you want to know or do you want to teach us about shortwave UV ? UV has been used in e legal diamond operations for the past 25+ years here in SA. (That I know off)

Here in NM, Fluorite and Carnelian are the two most common.    Some time you can find some samples that contain just enough Radium to shine.
