It's hard to do but if you take ya time you can make some great tools from it, and tools that have been found go back 10000 yrs or more

the out side is white coz its calcium deposits and all the black is compressed sea critters some you can see with the naked eye
is it ok to ues that word naked dang i said it twice now it's too late, any way thats a good place to look for fossils, coz you get big ones in it too and they go back millions of years,

There are large expanses of chert in Borneo and at the dig sites where ancient settlements used to be, tools made from chert have been found. I think that chert and flint are the same thing, just that flint is the black colored version of chert.

Strictly speaking, the term "flint" is reserved for varieties of chert which occur in chalk and marly limestone formations. Among non-geologists (in particular among archaeologists), the distinction between "flint" and "chert" is often one of quality - chert being lower quality than flint. This usage of the terminology is prevalent in America and is likely caused by early immigrants who imported the terms from England where most true flint (that found in chalk formations) was indeed of better quality than "common chert" (from limestone formations).

That gentlemen is called chert it's like flint and hard to tell apart and like flint it is made up of millions upon millions of tiny sea creatures , It is the stuff old stone tools are made of and all throughout the areas of KENT and SUSSEX in the UK it is everywhere,
axes scrapers knives and other cutting tools are made from that and flint, OK

From the viewpoint of most archeologist and geologists
there is no difference in chert and flint.
Flint is just the common name of chert.
It is like saying snail and gastropod.
