Howdy all,

I found this during my Labor Day mega-hunt.    I was actually out looking for relics when my coil swept over this thing.  It gave me a very loud, trashy signal.   When I looked, I expected to see a pile of sheet metal scrap or a tin can, but all I saw was this black rock in the middle of all the glass and the more "normal" (at least for the area....see another post of some of the typical rocks from the site) rocks.
Yes, the thing is magnetic (but not super magnetic).  Yes, it is denser than than most of the other rocks in the area.  Yes, the flat side does look like it has a lot of small crystals in the face.   No, I have not taken it to the local university yet, nor have I have a slice slapped off of it to acid test.   The weight is about 79 grams.
One thing that does concern me about it is the large number of gas bubbles  on the "trailing edge" which makes me think it could be something other than a meteorite.

BA, Somewhere on here I posted some rocks just like them and they are very heavy for there size
but mine are magnetic and when I tried to ground balance on them they came up with a GND setting of 79 - 84?
but I would not say mine are very magnetic and they have scaring marks and heat blisters and rust marks just the same

Mine's definitely magnetic....that's my wife's finger holding it suspended from the magnet about 7 inches over the notebook....On the other hand, it isn't so magnetic that it jumps off the table.   When I found it (and still now) I lean towards "stony" meteorite.....except for the "gas" bubbles.   Although they could be ejecta.    I would have already had them checked out, but most of the major institutes have been so inundated by potential meteorites and way too many "meteorwrongs" since the advent of Meteorite Men that they have had to suspend their id/verification programs.

By heft, you can tell they have a high "heavy" metal content.    Nowhere near as dense as gold.  But, yeah they are heavy for their size..... they feel about like what you would expect a chunk of either iron or nickel of that size to weigh.   Probably 2 to 3 times heavier than any of the non-metallic rocks of the same size

Yeah, I left out my flash shots because I didn't want to dazzle anyone.   Biggest difference between yours and mine is if you look at mine from a couple of sides, you'd think you were looking at a piece of lava.   Yours clearly shows the effects of heat, but only has a few areas that look like outgassing bubbles.   It's those dang bubbles that are keeping me from dancing up and down.  Undecided

That rock of mine weighs 241g and I have a bigger one that weighs 517g

When I phone the British Museum they said that alot of them do have gas bubbles from entering the Earths atmosphere
so those bubbles are quite common, where I found these I also picked up some the size of water mellons and boy
were they heavy  Shocked

Just from the pics, I'd say it has a pretty good chance of being a meteor. The fusion crust looks right and its pretty normal for them to break showing a "normal" insides. Have you looked up the area to see if a already known meteorite is listed?
