Anyone's opinion is welcome, actually. What is your gut feeling about this one? Still under a hundred when posted.

This too shall Pass!

It's broken or Batteries are dead.

Forget it.

Even if working it's would be no deal for that price to me. Cool

I have one of those in the dust pile.

Heavy as all get out and not so good out of the water any ways.

I bumped mine down to 10us delay and it's hotter on gold then it was but still not good enough.

What's the deal on your ADS?

The timing makes no difference on gold. Following your suggestion, I replaced my resistor with a potentiometer to see what affect the timing has. Zip. Zero. No affect whatsoever. This particular issue of timing seems to be an old wives' tale.

I've found some small differences in VLF operating frequencies but no affect with the timing. A 300khz machine works slightly better than 20kz and so does a 5khz machine when you are talking about VLF. The PI, as you know, has only a PRF or a Pulse Repetition Frequency. The timing you changed with that resistor is the field collapse time. It affects the receiver blanking time to avoid the receiver sensing the field of the coil during transmit as a target. Without that pulse width, the coil itself would appear as a target returning a positive signal. Gold, being a better conductor than iron, hold's its charge for far longer that that timing change would improve. In fact, discussing this with Garrett technicians, they changed the timing ages ago to 10us. My machine, 30+ years old, had that incorporated.

I'd still stay away from a broken machine just as you advised but that Sea Hunter is one hot machine in salt and fresh water. I've loaned mine more than once to a professional wreck diver in Western Australia and he can't say enough about it. If you don't like yours, why not sell it? I suspect you are selling it short, mate. Give it a fair shake in the field. It will surprise you. I guarantee it.

The cut off on mine was like 30us.

I'll use it some day some place.     Just not here and now.

Yes they are good machines for sure.

The coil cable  on the one I have is not even shielded.   LOL

The 200 I worked on was.

I'll put it in a new case  some day .

The Sea Hunter is one of the best water detectors I have ever owned But that one has a lot of problems. No head phones for one. Replacement cost over a 100 bucks Battery's may be bad another 100 and who knows what else. If I was a tech I might consider it at 50 or 60 bucks just for the case.

GD, the Timing thing is not a Wives Tail!

Better then that is the lowest noise figure you can have in the Preamp section.

Pulse Repetition comes to play as well.

Looking at the output of a typical PI Preamp you can see what's going on here.
