Garrett Ace 250. C-scope cs6 p.i
« on: August 21, 2009, 04:51:32 am »
Go Up Go Down

Hello, i am new to the hobby and am thinking of buying a Garrett Ace 250, i wondered if anyone had any views on it, whether it is a good beginners machine or if there is something better for a similar price.I would be using it primarily in parkland and beaches here in England. I currently have an old c-scope 660 which is fine if coins are no more than 2" down, and the discrimination is poor. Will the 250 be better than this?. Thanks

It is a great machine for beginners. I am also starting new with the ACE 250 and I found that it works best with coins. When the sensitivity is set to the maximum (it has an eight level sensitivity) it can reach down to more than 8" as I dug an old coin recently. I was amazed by its performance. You have to tune down the sensitivity to suit the condition while you are at the beach, trashy area or mineralised soil. Its tone can get erratic here.

Its ground balancing is automated. I dunno about other comments, but I find that its pinpointing is pretty accurate. You have to get used to it.

Overall its a great, light, hassle free machine.

Regards  Smiley

I also started with the Ace...It was what got me hooked on THunting! I recommend using headphones, you can hear the tones better, it doesn't attract attention to you and the batteries will last longer.
The pinpointing works grat and the settings all work well with whatever situation your hunting. I've found loads of clad coins and several rings with mine. It's lightweight and you can change out the coils if you want.
It works well in wet sand, but I don't do much beach hunting.
I bought my Ace on Ebay for about $170.00 used, in great condition.
Good luck and be prepared to get hooked! Smiley

It's a good starter machine for sure. Or you could also try eBay for a 2nd hand unit.

Christian

I have had mine for a few months, and have not used it more then 50 hours. But in those 50 hours i got pretty good at it, and find everything that my dads PRIZM 4 which was double the price finds.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

haha, no not really. he has a friend that is in the buisness, and sold him the PRIZM 4 for cost, so he paid like $249 or something like that for it. I think it sells for like $399, so he got a good deal. I just went to the hobby shop and paid $199 for mine. I wanted it ASAP and didnt want to wait for shipping off the web. Smiley
