Garrett XL500 Sea Hunter

Go Up Go Down

Hi guys,   I am a new guy on the block.   Years ago I had a Compass dectector which I thoroughly enjoyed except for one thing.   Ever year I owned it I had to send it in for repairs after it sat for awhile.  I finally got smart and got rid of it.   I recently found a Garrett XL500 Sea Hunter on Craig's list that had a dead battery.   I bought it for 50.00  I think I got a heck of a deal.  I found that It sells new for about 1200.00.    How does this machine compare to other detectors out there.   Some of you, I am sure,  have used this and can compare it to others that are used extensively on land.   I am looking forward to your response.    Thanks,   Flathead

Seahunter 500 was one of the most popular of the underwater units for years and a dang good unit to use in salt or fresh water--just has no disc ability. Have to dig it all...tons of stuff been found with them though...

Thanks for your posting.    I bought this thing for 50.00 bucks and just ordered a battery for 50.00 so I think I got a dang good deal.  You said the sea hunter did not have good discrimination ability,  how about the depth and size of the finds.    What have you used that was superior.

Homefire, If I put my setting on 0 wouldn't pick up a bunch of trash?  I read in the manuel that Detecting Detecting to eliminate the trash place the setting around 6 to 7.   I guess I could do 0 if I were in a place where I thought there was not much trash.....or like you said put it on 0 then turn it gradually down and listen for a faint tone if the target were fairly deep.
