What's the method behind the discrimination knob on the Infinium pulse detector.

Does it work by adjusting the turn off/turn on time of th e pulse (like the Whites Surf Mahine)?

I'd like to know to better understand the machine.

As far as I know, it Adjust the Delay time for your sample times.

Mind you, if you discrim out something you loose something.

Mate, you keep asking these kinds of questions on models currently in production. Have you tried going to the manufacturer's pages and downloading some manuals? Help yourself just a tiny bit here, please. Come back with the really hard questions after, not before, you have queried the manufacturer for a technical question.

Unless someone here has opened up one of these machines and scoped the function, there's no chance of determining what type of discrimination is being used. None at all.

I did go to the manufacturer and wasn't satisfied with their marketing hyped answer.

So I came to the forum with a real question.

Nothing wrong with that mate.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with asking but here's the deal. You ask as if you cannot even read the manual. You want someone else to download the manual, read it and then tell you how it works. If that's not what you want, then it sure looks like it.

My point is that you are here begging like a little kid in the street with a dole cup. Help yourself a little. Read the manuals and ask the manufacturers. Hype? That's in your head. Manufacturers are very proud of their features and love to brag about them. I can see that you haven't really asked anyone at all. What's the matter? E-mail too slow for you? Call them. Talk to tech support and ask your questions. The last time I rang Minelab, I spoke with the engineer who designed the very model I was asking about.

Now stop your whining, mate, or you will not be using these forums for long.

Hi Golddigger,

FYI...I read the manual on the Infinium before I posted the question.

It's 38 pages long and copyrighted in 2008.

It didn't answer my question about discrimination and therefore I posted my question.

Dear Mr. Goldigger1950,
It would be nice if you?d take it easy on my son who is posting on your forum.
He?s new to metal detecting and really loves it.
He also want to build a metal detector.
Go pick on somebody your own age.
I don?t see him whining as you claim. You then tell him to help himself.
He?s doing that by participating on this site.
And you respond by saying he?s arguing with you and he won?t be posting anymore.
DON?T YOU REMEMBER WHAT IT?S LIKE TO BE A KID ANYMORE?
Let?s put this behind us and move forward.
Enough said.

Please monitor what your son does. Stealing intellectual property is a crime even in Canada. I cannot possibly guess his age when he posts here asking for things that are not legal. Would you have this forum shut down for having stolen schematic on it? Of course not.

Kid or not, when he enters into this domain in relative anonymity, he plays an adult game. If he is under 13 and answered that he was older than 13, then that's another story because you, as a parent, have to send a form to the owner stating that you allow him to be here. Then, a proper introduction would have done a lot to avoid what has transpired.

This forum has a reputation for helping beginners to build a detector. Just look at the number of topics here on the subject to get an idea. Then look and see who the moderators of those technical forums are. You'll see that I have lots of experience at this sort of thing. I enjoy helping people but your son has spent three days asking for proprietary material, not asking which of the free, LEGAL downloads are the easiest for a beginner to build. Instead he wants to copy a design that is in production.

I sincerely applaud his interest in metal detecting. This hobby is populated by an aging demographic and youngsters are rare. This will keep him occupied with a healthy focus for years to come. I hope this hasn't dampened his enthusiasm but if it has, it's all down to him - not me.

Remember that thread from a long time ago about the LTD without a manufacturer's name? That one got his goat and now he's just had it with me.
