Fisher Gold Bug SE, Tracker IV
« on: December 31, 2010, 06:53:45 pm »
Go Up Go Down

I made a coin garden today so I could put my Micronta and the new Fisher Gold Bug SE thru some paces.  I buried a penny, dime, nickle, quarter, rusty nail, pull tab, and a 4inch piece of galvanized wire (not in the form of a loop) in separate holes 4 inches deep.  Then I did the exact same thing at 6 inches.

I know there's not much sense in reporting on the Micronta, since they don't make them any more that I know of.  But you will find them for sale on Craigs List, Ebay, and at garage sales.

I fully expected the Micronta to perform well at the 4 inch depth.  I got nothing!  I really thought I had forgot to turn it on so I double checked.  I turned the volume up, set the detector to all metals, maximum sensitivity, double checked the tune control and ground balance......nothing.  So I checked it on a metal light pole and yup, it was on.  All I can say is that this MD is definatley not for serious detecting, just coin shooting and digging other stuff at shallow, recent depts.  I  HAVE found things at a 2 inch depth under real conditions so I know it will go there.  It might find older relics that have been in the ground a long time or very large objects at deeper depths, but I'm not hunting for old pickup tail gates.

The gold bug is not here yet.

LOL!  My 10 year old has one and has found dimes at 6" .

Some thing is wrong with that one.

Peace of junk they are but they do work.

Want a good laugh, open the coil and see how there constructed.

It's a wonder they work at all.

Sounds like it's time to upgrade.

Lot's of good deals on craigs list , be surprised how many people buy metal detectors and then never use them.
Then sell for cheap. a friend bought a expensive whites model still in the box with accessories for $200.00

I need to find something with my Gold Bug I can sell.  I'd really like to start a collection of MDs.
