Except for potential cable issues, I can see how that might improve the ergonomics.......although if I were going for improved ergonomics, I'd go all the way and belt-mount the control unit.

Yep, this is a Chinese knockoff.  From a factory that churns out fake Garretts, White's, and Minelab detectors.

As for the better ergonomics, maybe weight-balancing-wise, but not visibility-wise - All the controls are upside-down, and you can't see the meter through your arm!

I missed that, probably because I don't use a meter.   And when I mount my lobo super traq on my belt I usually wind up with most of the controls being out of sight since that also puts them where I'm less likely to accidentally change them.
