Twice I have clicked on an ad banner on this website and was redirected to a retailer who touts " Experienced and Knowledable Staff"  to answer all my questions.  Well, turns out I knew more than they did on both occassions and thats pretty bad because I am a beginner.  I could tell both times they were just adlibing it and trying to come up with an answer.  SO HERE'S MY MESSAGE TO YOU:  It's okay not to know something.  Just say you don't know but you will find out and call me back.  The last sales person was kind enough to give me Garrett's 800 number so I called and they verified the sales person gave me faulty information.  JEESH.  Maybe, and I mean this sincerely, those folks could spend some time on the boards here and learn about their metal detectors.  LEARN YOUR TRADE.  Welcome with open arms questions that stump you and then go find the answer.  Stop making things up.  I am not exagerating this point folks.

Oh, and one more thing.  I COMMEND the people at GARRETTS who knew exactly what I was talking about and quickly gave me the answer with a little bit of technical information about the subject to boot, even though the answer was not favorable to my future purchases.

Like others have said, you got to do your own research and don't depend on staff unfortunately.  I've had the same experience buying a car.  Granted, they have a lot of models to know about, but they should know the basics.  You can tell when your talking with someone if they know their stuff or not.  I would find it refreshing to hear someone say "I don't know but I can find out".

Go Up Go Down

And the "Internet Follies" continue.  Is the internet a true gift from the silicon Gods or just another cash cow looking for some more change?  Or, are the players just some more treasure hunters using the internet as another "X" marks the spot.

We all have to understand what the internet has become and how to get the best use of what it has to offer.  At the same time we also have to be aware of some of the pitfalls we encounter.  Regretfully this type of encounter will be the norm until serious players start setting the standards.

We are all to blame here.  But not to the degree of this website and the advertisers they promote.  This website is all about making money from these advertisers.  PayPer Click, Affiliate Marketing, AD Link Swapping, or just Pay For Space, they want to make the money.

There is no real screening of the advertisers that are on this website or other websites.  That is a short coming of websites like this.  The advertisers themselves are usually someone trying to make a buck by following some internet guru's get rich plan.

What you have done was an honorable and just POST.  This is the step that must be taken in order to push the internet into the mainstream of integrity.  Making a buck is fine, but work for it.  Handing over your money to someone just because they say they know what they are talking about is a mistake, always test them.

The integrity of the Advertisers must be challenged by this website.  That is why people come here and socialise and click on the Ads, trust.  If we, the users of this site loose trust in the Ads, we also loose trust in this website.

Business is business and the customer comes first.  I guess you didn't come first when you encountered the clueless.  I for one would like to thank you for taking the time to share this experience with us.  I am sure NOW that this website owner is taking notes and will start realising his part in this to.

I know I got winded on this, but I share the experiences you have and am quite frustrated.  Maybe if they had to pay rent in a brick and mortar store they might take the business more serious.

P.S. Metal Detector Manufacturers will let anyone be a dealer, hummmm, guilty to I guess.

Go Up Go Down

I encounter this in the general market place as well.  The employee on the end of the phone or at the front counter is a minimum wage earner, who is not allowed by the company to work more than 30 hours a week, they don't get sick leave, time off for their mom's funeral, if they are $1.50 short in the drawer at the end of the day it comes out of their check.  They have no benefits, are not allowed to make a living wage, and therefore they have absolutely no stake in the company or its future success.  The fat cats at the top countinue to pay out bonuses and continue to find ways to squeeze every minute and penny they can out of their front line boots on the ground...the people who make or break their business by answering the phone or standing at the front counter asking "May I help you?"  I witnessed this crap first hand in my early jobs but especially in the work my kids did while going thru school.  One employer at a chicken joint was caught shaving time off the employee cards cause he got a bonus for saving the staore money by cutting costs.  The State of Texas made him pay everyone back but without prosecution or any reprecussions to him.  He also would make my kid clock out and sit in the store until they got busy and then clock back in and go to work.  I see this type of chicken sh*t treatment of the lower end workers all the time and then we wonder why service sucks.  Now I will surprise you and tell you I am a conservative by choice and a republican by hostage because I can't go along with the other side even more so.  I personally have always done the best I can do and been loyal to my boss despite the chicken feathers coming out but that is a choice by conviction that I have.  But how does it feel to live in misery and go to work knowing YOU OWN BOSS is trying to cut your throat?  What ever happened to ethics and giving people respect and common courtesy?  If I could I would start my own company, invest in my employees so they would invest back in me, and make it a pleasure to come to work and contribute and build something together.  Is that so hard?Huh??  I talk to people who work 2 and 3 jobs all over the week just to make ends meet because not one of their employers will give them enough hours.  This is why countries turn to communism and socialism when capitalism is only good for the fat cats.  Wow, did I say all that out loud?

Sorry, I'm a little slow.  You'll have to explain it to me.
