Go Up Go Down

Hi guys,

I was wondering, do any of you on the forum offer detecting services for fees? If so, can you elaborate and give me any advice? Not sure what the in's and out's are, but I was considering setting up a business for this, and then maybe I can write off my purchases (i.e. toy, new coils, etc) for tax purposes. I know many people set up small businesses to offset end of year taxes and some even go on to have a decent business venture out of it. This is what I am looking into, if there is any merit in trying something like this, especially me being 1 mile from the beach. Any thoughts or experiences or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Barrett

Hi Homefire,

well, I an not looking for a tax dodge as much as an offset... Wink

Just this year alone Uncle Sam is hitting me for around $10,000, not counting the $20,000 taken from my check for the year. My wife has been out of work for 2 years now and we are a two income- California family living on one now. I just thought if I could at least write off my hobby, erm, I mean business that would help a little. Smiley Anything I would charge would be nominal, to justify the business aspect of it. I probably wont do this at all, just looking for others experiences and feedback. Thanks for the tip!

Hi Karl,

What kind of ad are you running? How do you list it and where, under services? Thats not a bad idea...

@ Homefires - I think all I really want to do with this is to break even, so I get my toys paid for by years end... Smiley

Thanks again all!

Seeing as I am self employed I claim for everything that i by that is work related from diesel to phone bills tools work clothing
So if those coils are part of your tool kit then the ansewer is yes, also I claim for tyres oil and truck servicing and stationary and
my internet connection, If it is work related then claim for it.

I hope this helps.

Here is a copy of one of the ads I run in the Wanted section.

I want to metal detect anywhere within 1 hours drive of xxxxxx. I will share with you anything I find on your property and I fill all holes and take away any trash I dig. Your consideration is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
