Here in New Hampshire, all you can do is prospect for the spring.  The permafrost makes the ground as hard as concrete.  When your pick gets stuck in the ground it is time to hibernate until spring.

So what I'm hearing here is that I need to go South in the winter and North in the summer, and always find soft soil....ok, can do.  Now the only exception is that I hear in the winter they get out in the dry rocky/sandy areas of Arizona beepin down to the bedrock lookin for them thar nuggets.

Yeah, in Arizona (especially south of the Mogollon Rim) we tend to follow the Australian hunting pattern  Wink

Well went out on the heat wave day we had in Ohio it was 62 degrees. Found a 1927 dime and a 1944 quarter and some wheats. Not a bad day.
