Are there really machines that can find small gold nuggets from a thousand feet or more away?

Should we forget about our Minelabs and our Garretts and our Fishers and our Whites and our Tesoros, and just buy one of those Buck Rogers-type Long-Distance Locators?

This podcast takes a look at these mysterious machines that are supposed to find gold at phenomenal distances.

Some people have success with them. Just make a new thread and call it Divining Rods I'm sure that you will get some re-ply.

Regards Xavier

SERIOUSLY......if you're interested, go to the home page and scan down the list of Forum Message boards....past "Our Community"....past "Find Boards".....past "Metal Detecting"........past "Treasure Hunting".....past "Research and Techniques".......past "Tech Talk"......you'll come to "Long Range" (just before "Prospecting & Minerals").   You'll find a board on "Dowsing" there.  Some of the topics in it are pretty active and include postings by people who claim to be successful dowsers.   Most of us are either skeptics or flat out non-believers.

BA
By the way, I'd use old-fashioned dowsing rods way before I'd pay money for any commercial LRL --- If the the LRL's work better, it's only because the user believes they will.

Let's hope she never sees this post where you bet against her. Could be a fatal mistake.

Thanks for the vote of confidence BA Smiley
Discretion is the better part of valour GD?   Grin

All kidding aside it is kind of an interesting dilemma to me. Do some people have success with these tools because the tool has merit, or is it a side effect of the user believing the tool works and subconsciously tapping into some psychic ability?

There are some very interesting studies showing the mind can effect things in tiny ways. I saw some results from studies about people effecting candle flame and water fountains ever so slightly, but there was a change.

This one was kind of interesting.

On the technology side perhaps the LRL (using the term broadly here) is simply a paradigm to overcome. We can now see planets that are not visible even with the most powerful telescope by measuring the wobble of the stars they orbit. So instead of looking for the object, we are looking for the effect it has on objects around it. Undoubtedly this is due to computers being able to differentiate tiny differences in sensor readings. Our individual ability to crunch numbers has gone up astronomically as better faster PCs come along. The tricky part is no longer compiling the data, it's now figuring out what that data is telling us and how we use it.

Anyway its all fun to think about Smiley
