It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

If I don't have serial number yet Minelab GPX4500 or GPX5000 metal detector. There is no other way to find out where is made, China or Australia or some place.

Nearly all minelabs are now made in Asia that is why I switched Brands, Aussie Jobs just given away,

Minelab moved their factories over to Asia in 2009/2010,

No serial number? Not a Minelab detector.

On the Minelab Site they stated most Clones carried the same SN.   They gave it but you have to look it up .     Just Contact Minelab.

Companies ask for it when they send out their manufacturing. They loose quality control and open themselves to outright piracy. They make a run of your product and then while the line is running run some for themselves. I talked to a product QC engineer recently and he told me he just came back from a trip to China to find out why they were having issues with their China made product. Seems the  Chinese manufacturer was substituting inferior parts to save themselves some money figuring no one would know. In this case... was China. Could be most anywhere though.

Part of Minelab's production is made in the state of Penang in Malaysia. Their contractor is an American company, Plexus Corp.

If I recall correctly, prior to the move to Malaysia, Minelab had a factory in Ireland....and I didn't hear any grumblings then of Aussie jobs being lost to the Irish. Go figure.
