Xterra 70

The Xterra 705 sounds like it fits the bill for what your looking for. It's a great coinshooter and does well at nugget shooting. Although new, they are around $800 you can find a used one cheaper. A used Xterra 70 would run you about $400 possibly with an extra coil. One of the most versatile detectors out there. As far as ground balancing, you can manually set it, auto ground balance, or auto track which works very well when nugget shooting or hunting in difficult soil.

I just ordered the Fisher Gold Bug Special Edition.  I chose it over the low-end Garrett gold detector because the Fisher has many more features including target I.D. and target depth indication.  Its is a gold nuggett hunter, but has built-in ability to switch to coin and relic hunting.  I bought from Kellyco.  I also got a free accessory package of goodies and a $140 pinpointer for $25.  I know, its probably just a $25 pinpointer.  And the reason its on this thread.....THE GOLD BUG HAS MANUAL GROUND BALANCE CONTROL.

Good deal, be sure to post how it works for you. There is a interesting article somewhere on settings, in the forum I believe. I dont have such options, but the ground balance function and these other than standard settings are being talked about.

Aloha,

You might even consider a Whites GMT, used if you can find one. It has the auto ground balance feature and also can be ground balanced manually. I usually do the auto when setting up my machine then switch to manual once I start hunting. You can even hit the GB button while hunting if you run into harsh ground. Excellent vlf machine to consider if you can afford one.
Aloha,
Stan aka Ka'imi

I've got to own a Whites some day.  I'll have to find alot of aluminum and just save up for it.

HI PAT

My MXT is good down .2 or .3 of a gram i think it might be even smaller thats auto GB. But my GMT will pick up tiny specs, it has auto and manual
ground balance, the MXT is better on the more mineralized ground due to it's lower frequency , As the GMT is very sensitive but it will find gold that you'll have to use a pan to separate, on nuggets that are bigger the MXT will have the edge,i like the controls on the GMT that are on the dash ( below the meter ) so thats why I'm buying the MXT PRO tomorrow, I f  i'm going to detect in area that i don't know about then i always take the MXT300 with spare coils it has never ever let me down, and i've found more in 6 months with that machine than i have in the 5 1/2 years preveous .
set ya gain  then the threshold put in tracking or pump the coil 2or3 times and it's balanced in bad ground i just lock the tracking once it's balanced and away ya go, look on my profile i think there's a picture there on  there my first 4 to 5 minates of using it and it's all 18ct + platinum ,4mm diamond + 5 small diamonds, also check out that site i gave you and his diary .

John
