I need some advice, please.
I've been using a COMPASS AUTO MAX PINPOINTER and have been considering "updating it,
perhaps with the Garrett Pro Pointer.
It's a bit pricey so I was wondering what will I gain if I make the investment.
Does anybody have any experience or opinions  with these two devices?

Gain?    Nothing.

Pin Pointers are pretty much the same as far as I can tell.

Durability is the only issues I've seen.

Can't help there on either of those probes. I have used 4 or 5 different  probes. A recent one was the Vibraprobe. I found it has about a 2" reach mostly at the end of the tip. I' don't like it as after detecting for a while my hands don't feel the vibration very well. I have changed to a Pistol Probe and so far really like it. I initially was concerned about the plastic strength, but it seems just fine. Just don't try to use it as a digger or pry bar Smiley

Thanks for the reply, Mudflap
Have you found the Pistol probe detects too deeply?
I read that it has a 5" depth capacity.  When you "probe" does it detect items other than the one you're going after?
Is it worth the $160+-?
My Compass detects about 1" so if there's junk about it doesn't sound off.

I have the pistol probe but I bought it for the extra depth. I'm terrible at pin pointing so it helps me pinpoint with that extra depth.

I broke the snout with it on my waist sliding into the seat of my car. So be careful with it if you get one but it has helped my holes get smaller. ;-))

The Crappy little Harbor Freight works most well.

At $12.00 on a good day you can buy a few and keep one bouncing in the trunk.

I don't use a pin pointer but working on one for gold somewhat like a Falcon for gold.

I just "located" your message.
Harbour Freight, huh?

Thanks for the input, Dionhurst

My Compass has a nice feature, where I can "adujst" its sensativity
If I touch wet earth it buzzes and I can set it for about 1" depth.

I bought it so long ago that the price was reasonable.
The probes today are out of sight, pricewise.
Your Pistol unit goes for over $160 and the Garrett Pro sells for $127.00
and the prices are FIXED.
Nobody sells them for less

I have the Harbor Freight one.  It works most of the time Undecided   I mean it is consistent 90% of the time. The depth is still about 1 inch.  But for the cost, and no worries if it breaks, I can poke around and try to repair it Smiley  Or just get another.

THanks for the input, Aluminizr.
I try to stay away from items that I can't rely on almost all the time
Youi know when that item will crap out on me.

Aluminzer, I have a story for you.
I got a new GArrett AT Pro and couldn't wait to try it out.
I ran down to the local ballfield and thought I went to heaven.
THere were quarters everywhere..........according to my new machine
I shot with three different modes and they all showed "quarter".
If it wasn't for my pin pointer probe I would still be out there looking for the item I dug up.
All the quarters were "nuggets" of aluminum. Looked like soda cans that melted in a camp fire.
Covered in dirt and discolored they dug up looking like rocks and I just kept digging.
THe pinpointer found them

|Here's the killer.
I was shooting in a town in Tenessee called ALCOA.
Alcoa Aluminum is B I G in that town and I'm
guessing that the public works dept used dumpings from the company for land fill
So there you are , Aluminizer. A story based on your name.
THanks again
