Go Up Go Down

I have taken a large piece of cardboard and cut it into 2 by 4 inch strips. Then on one side of each strip, I tape a variety of objects like current composite coins, older non-composite coins, pull tabs and other debris that have fooled me in the past. I also taped various combinations of objects, like a pull tab and a quarter, etc.
Then being careful not to ever mark the non-object side, I mix them up and lay them out with the object side down (obviously). Detect them.
I use this often to sharpen my detecting skills and will add a couple objects that have fooled me during the past season.
Though this does not help me with detecting deeper objects, it does help with my hearing and recognition skills.

Wow thanks for sharing that. I am going to try this also. I need more time with my new toy to find out what disrimination settings to use. Mine also has TR1 and TR2 settings that say it is for ruling out aluminum. Havent tried the second setting yet. Now I have a way to test this. Thanks again.

Thanks for your reply.
When discriminating aluminum, I have practiced with different types and shapes of aluminum taped together with other metals. Then I adjust my settings to improve discrimination.
However I also use a piece of equipment that I think is no longer available. The Periscope is a ground probing detector that not only locates the exact position of the target and in 80% to 90% of the time accurately tells me exactly what the target is. Last year I dug no dry holes.

Judging from your online name you are a Marine. Me too.

Hello and Semper Fi to you. I too am a Marine and am going to try this out. Sound like a very interesting way to get your gear ready for the field.
