I'm told the coils on the fisher F2, F4, and the teknetics line as well as the new bounty hunter platinum and gold models are all interchangeable. Does anyone know of a bigger coil than the fisher 11" DD that will work on my F2? I want to cover some serious ground in a field before the frost hits this fall with one.

Really? You're asking this here? You really should be asking your original source. The worst case, you get no answers at all or just guesses. The best case, the same guys come here under a different name and give you the same idea. Or maybe I have that turned around.

but I"m not sending money to a company over seas. Until they get a distributor here I wont buy that one. And the unreliable source for that info was me lmao. I  worded it wrong, the F5 is in the same family of coils as the teknetics and bounty hunter platinum. Here's Dave J explaining it here

This is a very good read about types of coils, and this explains why I use a concentric for most all of my detecting

A little advice for you to improve your finds, mate? Learn your detector.

Before you dig any target, "look" it over with your detector. Change some settings a little, fiddle with this, that and the other, and then see if you can figure out what it is by what you have done. This is time consuming but if you do that with a half a dozen or so every time you are out, you will learn your detector and it will "speak" to you. Some of mine are tone discriminators meaning that they offer a different tone for each target. Instead of refining the return to a single tone and letting the computer figure out what it is, my machines allow the computer between my headset figure out what the target is based on the return signals.

Hold off on that new coil. Learn your machine like it was your girlfriend's bottom. But don't tell your wife.

lol, cant agree more with you. The F2 is Waaay dieffferent than my excalibur2, but Ive used many different machines and I love this F2 target respnse is lightning fast and accurate, and for 90% of  the places I hunt (trash infested old houses) the 8 or 10 Inch coil is ideal, but I got a field to cover before frost hits  Detecting  I'd like to do it with a big coil first, then hunt as I can in the snow with a 10inch or DD, I only have the 4" and 8" for it now. I'll get the 10 soon, onlyl test I seen on it so far says it gains you 1" in depth and it covers a little more ground, the 11" DD covers alot more ground at the same depth as the 10 (as tested that I saw so far. Waiting to see more tests before I buy). Oh and learn the detector part.........hell yes, I'll take any old bounty hunter with a discriminater and slaughter a newbie with an E-trac in total number of finds and best finds anyday. I spent many years on those old machines only being able to detect a little here and there because of working 70-85 hours a week when my daughter was little. Now its MY time =)  Rider

Where I live now I am in high mineral grd. and use the dd coils quite often, but when I am in ground that isen't high mineral
I will be using my consentric....not sure I spelled that right, In trashy or ground close to a fence I have a 3x5 dd I use.
but learning the detetor is everything like the one fella said.   My two cents...lol

hey good discussion i have logged alot of time with the 4 and the 8 inch coil  that one you shared in that link looked like it was gettin down pretty deep what does one of them cost ? i plan on getting a larger one my self but they are expensive. i agree with these guys about knowing your machine  but you will get some good general advice in here the A.R.T 4th floor crew these guys have helped me alot and everyone has different machines even if the same make and model    i will share one thing with you that i have noticed about the 2 coils i have  it may help you it may just be my perticular machine works  so its up to you to decide or see if yours does the same  when i use the 8 inch coil and i narrow down or pin point a target  regardless of the depth reading i check surface before i dig with pointer  you may not have to even dig and your target may be right on top . with the 4 inch once you narrow down target or pinpoint it you may get a 00 vmi in pinpoint mode with a shallow depth reading that doesnt nessisarily mean its close to surface but that you are directly over the taget it may be deeper .if its not on top the depth reading is usually right on the 4 inch is alot easir to pin point with i feel just because the coil is smaller in most cases anyway   but it is agood machine . if you do get one of the coils from overseas  let me know how it works  i amy want one myself i dug the end of last winter i got my f2 in febuary  and i dug when ground was froze 4 inches or so  it never phased it  still made good finds if the tagets were in that frozen section  they was a little hard to get out but anything below was like diggin anyother time of year  minus the cold fingers.if you try yours at the beach let me know how it does .   Josey

Ripped from another Forum, This should help?

FISHER COILS Huh?? (- General)

by Dave J., Friday, November 18, 2011, 04:40 (1 day, 6 hours, 58 min. ago) @ BIG SILVER CLARK

Over the last several years we've introduced a lot of new models in several different product lines. At times it has resulted in some confusion as to what's what. Knowing firsthand what dying pains feel like, I prefer the pains that come with growing.

So much for editorializing.

* * * * * * * *

The F2/F4 coil is electrically the same as the legacy BH series. But with a CB mike style connector. Nowadays. Originally it had a BH compatible DIN connector and is still available in that configuration for BH and original F2/F4 machines.

It is not electrically compatible with other Fisher or Teknetics products. It probably won't damage them but will NOT work correctly.

If someone has coils they can't figure out what's what, here's the straight skinny: get an LCR meter that tests at 1 kHz. And probe around the contacts until you find what is obviously the transmitter.

Legacy BH series: approx. 2.4 mH.

T2 only: approx. 680 uH, center tapped with some positions reading about 170 uH.

F75/F70: approx. 660 uH.

GB, GB Pro, G2, F5, Platinum, Gold, Gamma, Alpha, Omega, Delta: approx. 880 uH. Concentrics in this series are NOT specified for use on the GB, GB Pro, or G2 although in some instances they may seem to work.

If this information was useful to anyone please let me know by posting here.

--Dave J.
