Here is the digging tool i'm using. Cost 29 bucks for digger and holster. All stainless steel and built very tough. Jackson Versa Planter. It's a professional landscaping tool.

I wouldnt trade my wife for two twenty years olds. Gonna give my money away anyway, might as be to someone who will appreciate it. Now she cant walk on water, but darn close.

Those ames diggers might not fit well in your vest, unless you got a leather scabbard. They are sharp little buggers. Wearg gloves with em, or bring band aids.

Go Up Go Down

Let me start out by saying that several companies make great digging knives, trowels or whatever you want to call them and I am not trying to take anything away from them.  The fact is everyone can't afford and some newbies don't want to spend $40-$70 dollars for those items.  I think I have a solution.  This is a little item I picked up at the Walmart Garden section a few days ago.  It is strong and well built.  Simple, comes with a blade that you can saw with on one side and if you do a little sharpening you can cut with the other side and I really like the split end blade that will cut right through small roots and vines.  This item is 12" long and 2" wide at the biggest width of the blade.  It has a comfortable rubberized handle and is made by Fiskars.  The clear plastic cover is a bit cheapish but you can hang it on your side by the handle.  Now here is the great part.  $7 at Wally World.  Will it do the job?  I think so and I certainly going to gamble the $7 to see.

Thumbnails Low Priced Digger Tool

I purchased this digger a couple weeks back.
Have been out with it a couple times now.The tipped fork goes through gravel pretty good.Cut a root approx. 3/4 inch with
the saw blade with no trouble. The tool seems to be pretty heavy duty.If your worried about breaking it for the price just pick
up a spare, you can"t beat the price for a decent tool.
This digger gets 5 stars from me.

I have the Fiskars digger, and so far it`s been great for cutting plugs, though wish it was a tiny bit sharper, but may try and file it down a bit for some finer edges, otherwise it`s great Smiley

I've used this tool and really enjoyed it but have gone thru a couple of them in the last year so have a back up just in case.  Here's the pro's in my eyes

Pro:
- Lite
- Cuts plugs with ease when sharp
- 25 year warranty Smiley
- Price!
- Should be able to get a season out of this blade

Cons:

- Prone to crack from prying either where knife edge starts or near handle or handle itself due to weak metal cast
- Weak weld so longevity is compromised

All in all a great starter blade to use.  I got a Lesche for christmas and have used it already but I do enjoy the smaller design of the Wally World tool.  If your looking for a stronger digger look up Foundog on U-tube.  I'll be getting myself 1 once the 3 feet of snow melts in my yard (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada).  Almost 6 month of snow is just to much being I had snow beginning of Nov. and still have 3' and it's 3rd week of march, its just crazy.  Sorry about the rant it's the cabin fever talking...  But really look at that blade it has a cutting edge on both sides and IMO is easily stronger then both the Lesche or Predator.

I bought one of the wally world tools. So far, it's held up good under easy conditions. It's handy for lawns and parks, and like others have said, if it breaks it's cheap to replace.

I watched a fella use a bayonet, guess it could have multiple uses, might have to protect your treasure.
