Get some spray adhesive and attach the padding to the cardboard. then u wont have to worry about it falling or rolling under etc. If  your want to use the adhesive to attach the bag to the couch, i suggest u ask your wife first .  Grin Grin

Two good ideas!

And I talked with a friend who uses a fishing / hunting vest for MD'ing and loves it ,

So I was thinking of doing the same thing, his has a wide variety of pockets on the front and two big pockets,

in the back that are easy to reach, and has room for his digger and zip lock bags etc. and a pocket for a water bottle etc.

You can also use photography vests.  Do a search on these, as they are great for treasure hunting.

Thanks it's a Shooters Vest so it will serve two uses for Shooting and MDing,
Figure i can keep a water bottle and a digger in the big back pockets and put a  few Ziplock baggies in the front pockets to keep the finds in. and my GPS unit etc.
plus what ever else i can think of to bring along ,

ok guys: for your soft bag, home depot has a plastic board that looks like cardboard but plastic, wht, very rigid, feather light, cheap, weather resistant, sign shops have it too! also for spacers or pillows, use plastic produce bags, spray foam ins. before foam kicks you can form to any shape you want.i"ve used this method often when i ship delicate items to alaska..gimp
