In general, is it worth it to build your own MD?  I've seen that there are schematics available (being and ET myself, this could be very appealing!!!) even in this forum.  I am a very capable electronic tech, versed in the technical (theory) end of the field.  I'm just not sure of the overall "burden" required to build your own.

Hello Rick,

well, Iguess I would say it depends from what direction you are coming: If you would like to do it for the jpy of building one or learning about how it works then give it a shot! If you are in to safe some money then it would be more econimic to buy a used machine.

We have some very knowledgeable folks like Eugene aboard who will be happy to assist you with the project of building a detector.

Regards,

Christian

A few hundred years ago I built the SandBanks PI!    Come to think about it I still have a Kit for one stashed away.

A Few BFO's!

Completing Mods on  a Garrett SeaHunter 500.   Working 10 times better on small stuff then it was.

I just enjoy using what I do.

Kinda get a charge using them around other folks with there Fancy ones finding just a much too.

Yep!   A company called Cirkets  put them out.   Think I paid like 17.00 lb for it back in the 80's////
It's just a Toyo Transformer.     Do you want one?    I can scare one up and send it to yea!

Homefire . Yes I too have built the Sandbanks PI detector but I left the transformer out and substituted it for another  9 v supply . What I like to do is build this detector again but than following the original schematic . It will be put up with my other detectors I have built sofar . Nothing is better than having followed the original . If you can spare one of your transformers I would be gratefull . Send me our E-Mail no. to alphaor@versatel.nl ... Regards and thanks again .  Cornelius  ( I will make it up to you somehow  )

Cool!   Need to locate my stash of  old parts.

In the Schematic they listed it as YOKO 87 BX 135.

In fact the part supplied is a 87 BNS 135 BX.   Color Code Yellow.

Great work Homefire !!! A 20 year old mystery is solved on this Great Thunting.com Forum !!! I will research the part number and see if I can find other manufacturers . It would be great to find out the exact inductance ? I believe this part is a fixed transformer with a primary that is center-tapped ? Refresh my alzheimers !! Anyone else , please comment here .

 Great............. Wise.........Eugene

I can't find any references to the Old Toko coil numbers at all.  Can't find that version in my mess.

I have a pile of other coils and sure more then one would work.

Yellow Coded ones are for 455KHz  IF Work.

I would be willing to bet that almost any of them  (Yellow) would work in this application.

If Not!
