Yeah, I'm really enjoying this Sovereign so far.  (Only caveat--other than the balance--is that the tones and meter cut off right where high coins start)

Here are a couple of finds from last week before the latest snow hit:

Some corroded spots but my first war nickle:

And this is my favorite coin so far (surpassing the 1892 IH). Found in a tiny triangle of land right near my house that I thought belonged to a church but found out from the town's GIS map that it's town land.  Found this 1906 Canadian large cent (and my second silver dime--a 1947 Roosevelt) the night before the storm hit.

Go Up Go Down

The snow melted enough today--and the ground was soft underneath--that I spent a little time hitting my yard again.  Using the excuse that I'll plant some tomatoes or sunflowers there, I decided to start turning over the soil near the house to see what I could find deeper down in an area where I keep getting signals that might be coins or might be iron (sort of repeatable but not quite).  Switched to all metal and dug up a TON of nails in a strip about 18" by 36".  Figure if I spend some time pulling all the iron out of there, I'll not only have a good place for a test bed, I might actually find something deeper.  Spilled the *#$? iron out of my pocket when I started cleaning up in a hurry to go to dinner w/ my daughter for her birthday.  At least it'll be on the surface next chance I get--maybe take a magnet out.  Smiley

Trying to think what else I'd done since I last posted....  One thing was that I'd done a lot of research on the remains of a canal that ran from the late 1700s to about 1850 when a railroad came in parallel to it.  Spent all day one Saturday trying to find decent pieces of it.  One of the most promising sections via the satellite map had been "restored" in the '70s as a monument to the past, only to be completely overgrown and unused now.  Didn't find anything in that section but a few pieces of shot (or BBs).  After looking at a few other places that had been developed since, I found what I thought was a nice section.  Didn't find anything of real value but found what I at first thought was a rusted derringer but, after electrolysis, turned out to be a toy cap gun, perhaps from the turn of the century.  (Also found a ton of shells and bullets scattered about.)  There's a section of the canal tow path there that I couldn't get to because of high water but I hope to get to it again at some point when the water's low.

Now that I have a Sovereign (XS-2) and am learning pretty well how it works, I'm thinking of hitting some locations that I'd given up on with my Sidewinder.  When I've gone over some locations that I'd hit hard with my Sidewinder, I've been finding a lot more so I have hopes that some of the other locations will be more productive.

That tiny spot near my house where I found that 1906 large cent is turning out to be quite nice.  (Not going to share that with anyone--gives me a place to do quick searches late at night when I need a fix.)  Last night went out for an hour and besides some modern memorials (mostly pre-82), found two wheats from the '40s and a 1900 IH!  (That's my second.)  Also found this neat old skeleton key that looks like it came from a motel since it has a giant "80" stamped on it.
