I wasn't arguing with your opinion AU, because I respect them and it was helpful.

Todays update: I took the Tesoro to the worst park I know in the city. It is overhunted, tons of trash, and mostly used by low income people that don't have that many coins to lose. The last five times I was there I found nothing. This morning I set a goal. 81 square feet test area, max 1/2 hour sweep time. I followed the directions in the manual on how to ground balance in the field. I put it in discrimination (Silent) mode, and selected pull tab level (no iron, no nickels, no pull taps). About 15 minutes in I got a solid signal (awful quiet up to then, was getting bored). I pulled out a Lincoln memorial penny about 2 inches down. It was corroded pretty bad. See the photo. I got no more hits after that.
I then went over the same area in the all metal mode. I got so many hits every few inches I gave up. This park is so junky they should call it a junk yard.

Whoops! almost forgot the attachment

Yes I know Carl, In the UK Tesoro and Laser are the same machine except the Laser is tuned to UK conditions IE so the don't Mask out Hammered coins,

If I could Only Have One detector it Would Be the one You Have, because of its speed and frequency and the Lightness of the Machine and the list goes on.

I Prefer Whites Machines due to the Success Rate and features I Like But Tesoro and Laser are A GO TO Machine

For the most part I leave the electronics and physics to Xavier, Homefire, GD, AU, and most of the rest of the moderators.  My forte is history and and any research that involves hitting archives whether electronic or musty ol' paper.   I've got a good general science background, but just can't stay interested in the wiring schematics.   Now, if you want someone to held design and build something that doesn't involve radio theories and custom wiring, I'm more than happy to help with the process.  Smiley

GD  if u can get a 4in or 5in for that Tesoro and go back to that ugly park and detect it slowly u might pull out some coins or rings, That's one of the best places to hunt when everyone gives up and leaves. Those small coils work wonders. I love those 4in Tesoro coils.  shortribs

Thanks for the link. Yes I read that the other day while searching for a coil, but it didn't sink in at first until I went back and reread it. Widescan is the same as a double D coil. However their description is just a little over simplified for the concentric coil. Technically a concentric coil has 3 coils. The primary coil is split into two coils with a small portion wound in the reverse direction. The receive coil is in between these two coils. The reverse coil is used to create feedback to null or balance the coil so there is no signal in the receive coil until a target comes near the coil. Induction Balance, Double "D" and Concentric coils all use an induction balance principle but by different methods  Wise End of lecture. I think I will search for that 4 x 7 coil BA. Sounds like what I'm looking for.

Here is a great link if you want to bust your brain and know just about everything in the world about coils.

Just a small request, but can we come up with something besides "GD" to call GoldDustCarl when we don't want to use his full moniker, say 'GDC' or 'Dustie', or 'Carl'.   I don't want anyone to confuse him with GoldDigger1950, a long time Global Moderator  here that has been going by "GD" for years.   It might not be healthy for Carl if someone takes offense at some of GoldDigger1950's posts and blame Carl because they see the GD reference.   (and I won't make a big deal out of using GD to refer to GoldDustCarl...just wanted to get this out as a suggestion)
