Carl, if you have a preference on how people refer to you when they don't feel like typing out GoldDustCarl, now would be a good time to put in your two cents worth.

Or DC  or using all 3 GDCARL, But since he's got this Tesoro I don't think he will come home any time soon,, Not until the Batteries go flat.

GD  if u can get a 4in or 5in for that Tesoro and go back to that ugly park and detect it slowly u might pull out some coins or rings, That's one of the best places to hunt when everyone gives up and leaves. Those small coils work wonders. I love those 4in Tesoro coils.  shortribs

Thanks shortribs, I'll be sure to try that. Thinking of making a 4 x 7 Double D. I have a friend that has one and he is going to let me borrow it for awhile.
I will post results.

Just a small request, but can we come up with something besides "GD" to call GoldDustCarl when we don't want to use his full moniker, say 'GDC' or 'Dustie', or 'Carl'.   I don't want anyone to confuse him with GoldDigger1950, a long time Global Moderator  here that has been going by "GD" for years.   It might not be healthy for Carl if someone takes offense at some of GoldDigger1950's posts and blame Carl because they see the GD reference.   (and I won't make a big deal out of using GD to refer to GoldDustCarl...just wanted to get this out as a suggestion)

BA

Why don't you guys just come up with something, agree upon it, and I will be happy to abide by it. I am not too picky. Just as long as the name doesn't refer to body parts or profanity or is abusive. I have been going by golddustcarl since 1994.

Just an up date on the Tesoro. I like it. It's not a PI (my favorite type), but for a vlf it's just like you guys posted. A very good detector. The learning curve is still going on, but i am getting the hang of it pretty quickly. I took it to one of our clubs mining claims and discovered some f of quirks and some of it's good features and blended them all together into a method to operate it. I can say it's temperature stability is excellent. Temps floated around in the low hundreds all day, and humidity was high and I seldom had to retune except when there was a large change in soil conditions.
I tried using all metal mode at first, but there was a lot of iron in the soil and iron junk. So I turned the discriminate on just  enough so the switch on the control just clicked on. I then searched until I jot a target response. If the tone was not distinct or only responded in one sweep direction I by passed it. If I got fairly good signal, I moved the discrimination up to iron and if I got a distorted tone or no tone I bypassed it. If I still got a tone I dug it. I did not find gold that day, but the trip was mostly a training lesson for me. The fellow I purchased the detector from bought a new LOBO and we both went together to learn our machines. The reason we picked the particular claim was that a fellow we knew showed us 5 nuggets that he had found there a couple of weeks ago. He was using a Minelab 4000 though.  Kiss

Whats my new monikercarl

Hi GolddustCarl

Dual audio is the way to go for me, no need for discrimination just dig everything that is in the non ferrous tone.

Wish that Vaquero had that. However the PI I am building only responds to non-ferrous. No need to know if its iron. The Tesoro is for that. Discrimination sure does play havoc with depth penetration. Just ordered a Tesoro lower shaft to put on my Garret shaft so it will mate with my homemade search head. The lower shaft is made of fiberglass.

Well I'm putting a new VLF together, actually it's the same one that I have but with a new upgraded PCB. My other one gave up on me and even with all the testing that I did I could not find the fault any where, It could be a hair crack on the board.

Very well could be a crack Xavier. If you have a 10x or 20x prospectors loupe, you might be able to find it. Also could be a software glitch or a ground loop problem.

I gave up looking. I took this opportunity to make a better PCB for it re-orientating and placing of components.

Sounds like you have it under control Xavier. Are you going to post a picture of the finished project?

Yes can do Carl. I only wish that I could have made it a single sided board though.
