As I was hunched over a upturned plug in the grass with a handful of pull-tabs and other garbage pulled up from over an hour of metal detecting. I'm thinking to myself - why am I doing this just for a few lousy pennies and the occasional nickel or dime that might be there too?

I'm sure this is a good question for many of you out there reading this.  And perhaps thought to yourself 'you know, I could be at home relaxing and enjoying a nice hot cup of coffee instead of out here in the cold, damp, crappy weather....' and then to add insult to injury.. you just realize that you forgot your cell phone in the car, and the wife's probably been trying to get a hold of you for the past 1/2 hr.

Maybe you'd just as easily get on the internet and go find that V-nickel on eBay instead of dreaming about pulling one up out of the ground. But like most of us.. it's the hunt! The big 'what if' that keeps you coming back.

I'm still yet to find my first silver coin (sigh).

Zul few find a jar of gold coins, a big diamond ring or even silver coins their first few times out. Keep hunting, reading and learning you will get there.

I found a ring my 3rd time out (turned out to be very nice costume jewelry), but the excitement of sticking my hand into a clump of beach sand and my finger went into the ring......well let's just say it was very exciting! even when I don't find anything of any real value, I still find it relaxing....not to mention I am getting a great tan and some well needed exercise!

BTW, my Mom loves costume jewelry. I gave her the ring after I cleaned it up, and she was very happy!
