For nuggets you may want to spend a bit more and look at White's MXT, it is possible to find one used with warranty at your budget if your patient

Get the best Tesoro you can afford. Start using it in the all metal mode and learn each feature one by one. As to depth, don't get railroaded. The size of the object, soil condition, moisture content and length of time in the soil will have more of an effect than any brand name can. It's a red herring, as far as choosing a model. Stick with the well known brands. Again, I advise Tesoro. Look at my inventory. I've used them all and still grab my Tesoro first most of the time.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Best bet is not to jump into anything and read all the reviews on ALL the detectors of ALL BRANDS, they are all going to find coins at different depths but not all of them are going to find gold at various sizes. Shoot,  If your just going to go coin hunting pick up a radio shack model for a $100 then. Whatever you get it is sure not to be your last as you will eventually upgrade again to a better model.

Yeah I agree with William, most of all it has to support you're needs and your budget,
seems like you have got some sound advice from all who have commented here so now you just need to weigh up the models and brands,

Look on the left under everyone's name that responds. They usually have some of their favorite detectors listed. They all seem to be giving sound advice. Good luck with your purchase.
